  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

So a few weeks ago, I took on these 2 jobs in the wake of my poor
9-5 M-F job laying me off. It wasn't a career, it was just a little franchised packing and shipping depot but it was the first full-time, steady-hours, set-schedule job I ever had. I took a similar position at another of these same franchised stores (but 30 minutes away) Feb 1. It could offer good enough pay but only 30 hours a week in the form of 3 10-hour days. I need more than that, especially since I am making a long drive to get there. So I took on this other part-time job at a major hardware store, as a garden "expert" on March 1. It's shifts are about 9 hours long with a 1-hour lunch in the middle. It's suppose to be my "weekend" job, and the other one is on 3 different days in the middle of the week, which should leave me like 1-2 days off, right?
well, the little shipping depot keeps adding an extra day because it only has 6 people and if one can't work, I'm the only one who doesn't have kids which means I'm readily available. The hardware store keeps adding me on all the other days because while it has 200 people, they get so busy March is like christmas for those with a long list of home renovations and landscaping to do.

Long story short, I have these 2 week stretches with no day off.
And that would be alright, if the shifts were short... but they take up my whole day and both are fairly labor-intensive. One requires me to move boxes around all day, the other large ammounts of potted plants out in the direct sun. So I'm pretty beat at the end of the day.
Not alot of time for me, my fiancee, or any of my endeavors to "find myself"
and meditate and take up hobbies to relax or any of that.

What should I do?

I have changed my availability so that hopefully in a few weeks I always get Wednesday off... but still, that's only one day to do all the other non-work things.

o_O

I am feeling depressed and mentally exhausted. I'm not used to working this much. I need advice on managing my time better, and on getting the mental strength not just to get through the work days but to do other things I need to do outside of that, like meditate and spending time with people etc...

The way I see it you have these options:
1/ look for a new job for more suitable hours to replace the two you have now.
2/ tell the company that keeps giving you an extra day that you are not available additional days and, if they want to change that, they need to permanently employ you the extra day (then once you have that extra day in your contract, quit the other job).

It's not really uncommon for people to work 6 day weeks these days though doing physical work all day must be very hard, especially in the sun.

ok.. well im not in the sun ALL day, just part of it and thats 3 days out of the week.
It's a gardening job, which can be fun but sometimes involves moving heavy stuff around.
Mostly I'm concerned for my relationship because the only people I meet who work every day or alot of hours are single and tend to stay that way.
