  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I just saw this last night.

Um.

Does America really have a news network who assures you they're "fair and balanced" as a slogan?! That's brilliant!

Anyone else seen Outfoxed? What did you think?
I've seen the trailer. How do you get to see it, you don't even live in the US? Yep that is true. I first noticed something about a year and a half ago while watching their morning show. These people were wearing their opinions on their sleeves, and it appeared they were being coached to babble on like a bunch of monkeys. They all reminded me of weather men. There was that one woman that was very attractive however. I don't have cable anymore so I haven't watched in a while.

A friend bought it on DVD. It's very recent, showing internal memos telling staff to avert attention from the Abu Ghraib atrocities towards a story about a kidnapped US soldier, and how the staff would get a pat on the back if they sarcastically hassled Kerry about something, etc.

Yes, I can give that the abso-bloody-lutely. Most news networks wouldn't be brave enough to claim such a status. What is even more brilliant is that Fox News pretends to fight criticism that it is left-leaning. See this video featuring O'Reilly: http://media.ebaumsworld.com/jackmehoffer.wmv

Bill O'Reilly refutes a writer who accuses Fox of leftist bias, but the writer is really just a prankster with a prank name.

Yeah, they had a montage of Bill O'Reilly telling people to shut up. That was directly after showing a clip of him saying that he'd only ever said it once.

It's fascinating. I had no idea that something like Fox existed outside of Stalinist Russia or dystopia novels.

Welcome to AmeriKa. On a smaller scale, what is happening in America is similiar to Germany late 1800's.

I hear is all the time, 'liberal media bias'. Yet liberal by american standards is right wing by the standards of the rest of the world.

Absolutely. The "left wing" of US media serves the right by establishing a boundary on the discussion, so that anyone moving past the leftist boundary into what the rest of us call "sanity" is accused of extremism. An example of that is Bill O'Reilly's reference to Glick's position as a "marginal extreme left-wing view" after Glick pointed out that the US funded and trained the mujahedin terrorists who kicked out the People's Democratic Party of Afghanistan and established the Taliban in its place. Glick was not expressing an extremist opinion, he was stating established matters of record, but to mention those particular facts is just not done in proper circles.
