  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

No. I believe there are rights far more important that serve a purpose for al US Citizens not just those who choose to act upon their right to carry gun. Heck, here in NYC I don't even have the right to carry a gun outside of my property.

so do you disagree with the artical?

Didn't they have a case in New York, where some guy drew down on a burglar in his apartment, they let the burglar off, but threw the book at the other guy?

As a Brit and therefore one of those people who tried to take away your right to bear arms 200 odd years ago, I have never had that right myself except under the strictest control of the law. However, it seems to me that from the way that recent tighten-ups in UK have worked, that the problem is never with people who want to openly have guns for legimate reasons like hunting and competition shooting, but with those who want to use them for criminal purposes, and these people will get them no matter what you do and no matter how many laws you have to prevent it. What is more, even if possession of firearms is legal, thery will use underground sources because that makes it more difficult to trace their association with a gun crime.

We had a case like that in the UK in which a farmer whose house had been repeatedly robbed by the same group of youths and had reported them to the police several times to no avail. finally lost his patience and fired at them with a shotgun, injuring one slighlty. They ended up being acquitted and he was sent to jail!

Yes. It's illegal to own many types of guns in NYC.I am sure if gun laws were less strict here people more NY'ers would shot each other.
