  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

O
f course one could say that the latter Synods deviated from Orthodoxy because they speculated too far....however I would think that the Orthodox Fathers of these latter Synods would be followed by St. John Damascene himself.

it is like dumping what you do to us....hehehe... No we do not Deviate...that is the Rome's pronomion ;)... To "diviate" as well to "add"...We clarify and we go on... we do not "add" like you keep doing with Marian dogmas etc. The East never saw the Aristotelian view of the EUcarist Aquinas did

But like other threads this one is also going circular.... good grief...:(... We already explained this pages ago :(

Simply put we are uniting ourselves with the LIVING GOD who is Christ... not the essence of God.. as God is spirit and not of the same substance.. like us. This is our limitation as "created being" we cannot unite with something uncreated... perirod. We unite ourselves in the Holy Eucarist with Christ the resurected person of Christ. I would be safer to say we do not know to what extend we are united to his divinity rather than saying we are for sure... Since we have dogmatic implications that they do not allows us to say for sure that we are.
Uniting ourselves with the Living God Christ is a mystery and we should not fall into temptation to chew more than what we need...or we will go into heretical thinking and fall into all kinds of trouble as saying we are "part of God"'s essence.... We are not and will never be period or then we are gods ourselves... and we are not we are creation and thus "ktismata" not "parts of God"....

Hope that made some sense to you all...

Philothei,

Don't look at me! I said a lot of crazy things in my time-- but never that we "unite with God's essence", only with His grace/will/glory/energies. I'm still waiting for the RC response to that question.

BTW. in my earlier posts, I forgot to add "God's glory" to the list of terms which, in EO theology, refer to the divine, uncreated energies.

Note that God's energies are just as mysterious to us as His triune nature (essence and personal attributes). That is, we will never comprehend them intellectually. The only difference between God's energies and His hidden nature is that; we can experience and commune with His energies.

For a crude earthly illustration, think of gravity. It can be experienced even by a non-scientist, though he doesn't understand it intellectually. Every created thing is "non-scientist" when it comes to God's energies.

oh...I know I thought that I read something in your quotes that they were not clear and thought of clarifying it Jeremiah...;) No harm intented I probed to question you so that you can clarify that is all... The ball is centainly on their court and futher this is a "no debate" area so they have to keep it straight as we explain what we believe.:study:

We do not need them to tell us what "they" (RC) believes as that is not the topic of this thread... either...
