Original Sin...

Is it biblical? I have spoken recently with some believers who do not hold to the doctrinal beliefs of Original Sin. They believe that we are born without sin, but born into a fallen world.

That is, because of Adams sin the world became fallen and sinful. So our nature, left without Christ, would choose sin because of our environment. That would mean that babies are born without original sin; and that does away with the teachings of the age of accountablity.

I would like your opinions and Scripture references for or against original sin. Thank You.

I believe in original sin in the sense that we are born with the propensity to sin, yes, but that we do no bear the sins of others on us when we are born. We sin enough in our own lives to make the concept of inheriting sin as unnecessary. The people who believe in original sin are usually trying to justify a belief in infant baptism.

I did not mean original sin in the sense that we are born with our fathers sins. But the original sin of Adam; makes us sinners from the get go.

Has anyone heard this argument in Protestant circles; or am I arguing with myself only..

Why then do we discuss the Age of Accountability. Am I making sense?

Lutherans, Anglicans, and Methodists believe in original sin, and that is why they baptize infants.

Those who believe that we have a sinful nature, do not believe we are guilty of Adam's sin, but that our nature makes it impossible for us not to sin.

For accountability:
Romans 2:12
For all who have sinned without the Law will also perish without the Law, and all who have sinned under the Law will be judged by the Law;

We believe that children too young to understand the Law are not bound by it.
