To rephrase, perhaps: the fact that you cite SDA affiliation.
Sorry dear friend I have no idea what your talking about or what your saying has anything to do with what we are talking about in regards to the OP here. Please feel free to explain yourself a little further.

To state it differently, when I replied before I had not noted that you yourself were from an SDA background.

Oh, ok thanks but what does that have anything to do with our discussion?
It shows where you are perhaps coming from; something I had not realized at first.

This is a fair point, I think. (Even if you do not think so. Well, fine.)

Your correct I do not think it was a fair point as all through this thread and the OP I have only shared scripture related to the topic of the OP that proves the OP correct. If you disagree your welcome to prove why you disagree from the scriptures. I believe we should be all examining ourselves to see if we are in the faith of not which is what the scriptures teach. This is not an unfair thing to ask do you think?

Compare:

Exodus 20: 8 Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labour and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates. 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

To:

Dueteronomy 5:
12 Observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy, as the LORD your God has commanded you. 13 Six days you shall labour and do all your work, 14 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your ox, your donkey or any of your animals, nor the alien within your gates, so that your manservant and maidservant may rest, as you do. 15 Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and that the LORD your God brought you out of there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the LORD your God has commanded you to observe the Sabbath day.

These two versions were written about 850 BC and 625 BC respectively. One has to wonder why God changed his mind about the reason for the Sabbath.
Hi Jack, I also remember wanting to know why there are 2 versions of the 4th commandment. The truth is; the commandment is in the first part,
Exo 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
then how to keep it
Exo 20:9
Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
Exo 20:10But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:

and thirdly why to keep it.
Exo 20:11For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

God gives other reasons why to keep the Sabbath. In Ex 31 God said it's a sign of the covenant.

Exo 31:13 Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you.

I've asked Jewish leaders about it and most of their writings shows only the commandment to keep the Sabbath, and not how and why.

I've asked Jewish leaders about it and most of their writings shows only the commandment to keep the Sabbath, and not how and why.

The how and why is revealed in GENESIS 2:1-3 and further expounded in EXODUS 20:8-11 and MARK 2:27-28. That is why we keep God's 4th commandment is that God set apart the seventh day of the week at the end of creation and "blessed the seventh day" and made the "seventh day a holy day" for all mankind *MARK 2:27 through the spoken Word of God. At Mt Sinai even though the Sabbath was known and kept before this time from creation God's people were in slavery coming out from Egypt. God gave them the written word to help them to understand why and how by saying..

EXODUS 20:8-11 [8], REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY, TO KEEP IT HOLY [Made Holy at creation GENESIS 2:3]. [9], Six days shall you labor, and do all your work: [10], But THE SEVENTH DAY [ Genesis 2:1-3] IS THE SABBATH OF THE LORD YOUR GOD [v10 is the Bibles definition of the Sabbath] : in it you shall not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger that is within your gates:{How is no work and resting and keeping the day holy} [WHY?] [11], FOR IN SIX DAYS THE LORD MADE HEAVEN AND EARTH, THE SEA, AND ALL THAT IS IN THEM IS, AND RESTED THE SEVENTH DAY; WHEREFORE THE LORD BLESSED THE SABBATH DAY AND MADE IT HOLY. [Refering to GENESIS 2:1-3]

The Sabbath here is defined as the "seventh day of the week" *EXODUS 20:10. It shows "the seventh day" is a memorial of creation and a celebration of God as the creator of heaven and earth and that this day is a "holy day" of resting where we are not to do our own work.

This is why EXODUS 20:8-11 is pointing back (not foward) to the finished work of creation. The Hebrew word "sabbath"is a discrptive noun the points back to the "seventh day" of creation and simply means every "seventh day". There is no Sabbath before the creation of the "seventh day" because the "seventh day" that God blessed is the discriptive noun of every seventh day.

It comes from the root word that is the verb for doing or keeping Sabbath (seventh day) by resting. At creation God "blessed the seventh day" as part of the continuous weekly cycle. and made it a "holy day or rest" for all mankind *GENESIS 2:1-3; EXODUS 20:8-11; MARK 2:27.

Hope this helps.

Hi Jack for me I do not see any contradictions here in EXODUS and DEUTERONOMY. EXODUS 20:1-17 was written and spoken by God, directly to ISRAEL while DUETERONOMY 5 is MOSES speaking to ISRAEL who have all just come out of the land of Egypt. Also, I do not think any of the scholars are in consensus on the dates these books were written. They are only estimates at best.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts though.
LGW, it obvious that Jack was looking for answers about the different words in the 4th commandments. It's obvious to me that you fumbled in your response. First you pointed out , in Ex 20:1-17 that God had written and spoken directly to Israel. Show us what text in the entire chapter of Ex20 saying that God had written anything? It appears that you're giving false information.

Here is when Moses went up the mount to get the tables of stone.
Exo 24:12¶And the LORD said unto Moses, Come up to me into the mount, and be there: and I will give thee tables of stone, and a law, and commandments which I have written; that thou mayest teach them.
Here what happens after 40 days
Exo 31:18¶And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.
So God wrote on the first tables of stone with His fingers, but no one read it to anyone.
Moses then broke them because Aaron made a golden calf......
God called Moses back to get a new set.
Please notice in the scripture below that God dictated and it was Moses who wrote on the tables of stone.
Exo 34:27¶And the LORD said unto Moses, Write thou these words: for after the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with thee and with Israel.
Exo 34:28 And he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.
Exo 34:29 ¶And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses' hand,
Exo 34:31 And Moses called unto them; and Aaron and all the rulers of the congregation returned unto him: and Moses talked with them.
Exo 34:32 And afterward all the children of Israel came nigh: and he gave them in commandment all that the LORD had spoken with him in mount Sinai.

My first argument is this: Moses get's to tell us what God dictated to him on the tables of stone, not you.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You also said in Deut 5 Moses was speaking to Israel as they just came out of Egypt. Truth is Deut 5 is at the 40 yrs endline ready to cross into the promised-land.
I'll give you a chance to correct your remarks.

Not really dear Cribstyl but here is why. @JackRT posted earlier..

I believe my response above from the scriptures which is God's Word not mine shows that EXODUS 20:1-17 was spoken by God to all of God's people while DEUTERONOMY 5 is spoken by MOSES to God's people who had just come out of the land of Egypt. There is no contradiction here that I can see only different circumstance and God speaking and EXODUS 20:1-17 and Moses speaking in DEUTERONOMY 5.

Now please tell me dear friend what false information has I given him? If you cannot show me what false information I have provided why pretend I have when I have not? Anyhow I will leave that for you and God to work through.

Exo 34:32 And afterward all the children of Israel came nigh: and he gave them in commandment all that the LORD had spoken with him in mount Sinai.
Hmmm Yep, soo this has what to do with what we are talking about in EXODUS 20:1-17 being God spoken and DEUTERONOMY 5 being Moses spoken???
My first argument is this: Moses get's to tell us what God dictated to him on the tables of stone, not you.
Actually God directly spoke them in EXODUS 20:1-17. Moses simply repeated what God said and added to remember that they were slaves in Egypt and that the LORD our God brought you out of there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm *DETERONOMY 5:15.
You also said in Deut 5 Moses was speaking to Israel as they just came out of Egypt. Truth is Deut 5 is at the 40 yrs endline ready to cross into the promised-land. I'll give you a chance to correct your remarks.
No correction needed. You simply missed the point being made. The point being made was that MOSES was speaking to all those who had witnessed God's deliverence in delivering them from Pharaoh the King of Egypt *DEUTERONOMY 5:15. The point was never that they just left Egypt.

Hope this has helped to clear up any misunderstandings you may have.

You're saying that these ten commandment in Ex20:1-17 was written and spoken by God directly to Israel. We read and agree that God spoke those words but you're also saying that God wrote those words. Show us where God wrote those words in Ex20.

Yep no problem...

Exodus 24:12 [12], And the LORD said to Moses, Come up to me into the mount, and be there: and I will give you tables of stone, and a law, and commandments which I have written; that you may teach them.

Exodus 31:18 [18], And he gave to Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him on mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.

Exodus 32:16 [16], And the tables were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, graven on the tables.

Deuteronomy 9:10 [10] And the LORD delivered to me two tables of stone written with the finger of God; and on them was written according to all the words, which the LORD spoke with you in the mount out of the middle of the fire in the day of the assembly.

Your welcome

The how and why is revealed in GENESIS 2:1-3 and further expounded in EXODUS 20:8-11 and MARK 2:27-28. That is why we keep God's 4th commandment is that God set apart the seventh day of the week at the end of creation and "blessed the seventh day" and made the "seventh day a holy day" for all mankind *MARK 2:27 through the spoken Word of God. At Mt Sinai even though the Sabbath was known and kept before this time from creation God's people were in slavery coming out from Egypt. God gave them the written word to help them to understand why and how by saying..
That's blatantly false LGW. Ex 20 is addressed to the Children of Israel not to all of mankind.
Exo 20:2 I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
"How" 'mankind' should keep the Sabbath is not addressed in Ex 20, Deut 5, Gen 2:3 or Mark 2:27.
It's undeniable that 'How' and 'why' the children of Israel are commanded to keep the Sabbath is addressed in Ex 20:8-11 an Deut 5:12-15. Your commentary on this matter appear as disingenuous.

In Gen 2:1-3 God rested on the Seventh day. Your commentary discard the verb shabat and replace it with Shabbat. Strong bible tools make it clear that rested (shabat) in this context means "God rested". It's a waste of my time to unravel your games because you have no choice but to add to the word of God.

Look at what you have to add, in order to change the word of God.
(LGW) EXODUS 20:8-11 [8], REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY, TO KEEP IT HOLY [Made Holy at creation GENESIS 2:3].

Hope this helps.

Yes, It helps to expose what you do LGW.
The reason why the Children of Israel is commanded to keep the Sabbath does point back to the fact that God rested on the seventh day of creation. That why it's restated in the 4th commandment that God rested on the seventh day. It does not say that God rested on the Sabbath day. Your definition of Sabbath comment "every seventh day" changes God's rest on the seventh day of creation to working and resting beyond what's written in Gen 2:1-3.
Unfortunately for you, where the Sabbath commandment explains why to keep the Sabbath. Your commentary about God keeping Sabbath is exposed. The word rested here is strongs h5117 nuwach
The KJV translates Strong's H5117 in the following manner: rest (55x), ceased (1x), confederate (1x), let down (1x), set down (1x), lay (1x), quiet (2x), remain (1x), set (1x).

Exo 20:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested(h5117) the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Your next move will be to ignore (Wherefore ) as saying this is why the Sabbath is also blessed and made holy for them to keep it or die.

That's blatantly false LGW. Ex 20 is addressed to the Children of Israel not to all of mankind.
Not really dear friend it is absolutely true. Here is why and the evidence is provided from the scriptures provided earlier which show a few things here.

1. God's seventh day Sabbath was made in creation on the seventh day of the week *GENESIS 2:1-3.
2. There was NO ISRAEL and there was NO JEW when the Sabbath was made for all mankind
3. JESUS says that the Sabbath was made for all mankind *MARK 2:27

4. God's ISRAEL is only a name given by God to all those who believe and follow God's Word in the new covenant * EPHESIANS 2:11-14; GALATIANS 3:28-29; ROMANS 9:6-8; ROMANS 2:28-29; COLOSSIANS 3:11; ROMANS 10:11-13. The new covenant promise is only given to God's ISRAEL which is defined in the scriptures as all those who believe and follow God's Word *ROMANS 9:6-8. If we are not a part of God's ISRAEL then we have no part in God's new covenant promise *HEBREWS 8:10-12.

I would say that God's Word provided here is true. Why do you make claims that what is posted here is not true? They are God's Word not mine and I believe them.

Sooo, what is false dear friend? Are you saying there were JEWS and ISRAEL on the seventh day of creation and mankind was not in perfect harmony with God before sin entered the world? Remeber there was no ISRAEL God until gave the name to Jacob after the fall of mankind. On the seventh day of creation mankind had not yet sinned and only Adam and Eve were alive in the beggining of creation.
Exo 20:2 I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
Yep all of God's people came out of Egypt alright and your point here is??? Are you really trying to say that Christians do not have to obey God's 10 commandments? I will wait to hear your response before providing the new testament scriptures as I am not sure what your point is yet.
'mankind' should keep the Sabbath is not addressed in Ex 20, Deut 5, Gen 2:3 or Mark 2:27. It's undeniable that 'How' and 'why' the children of Israel are commanded to keep the Sabbath is addressed in Ex 20:8-11 an Deut 5:12-15. Your commentary on this matter appear as disingenuous.
Well you only part quoted me here from your post in this section. The how and why is absolutely addressed in the scripture provided in God's 4th commandment here that you left out...

EXODUS 20:8-11 [8], REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY, TO KEEP IT HOLY [WHY? Made Holy at creation GENESIS 2:3]. [9], Six days shall you labor, and do all your work: [10], But THE SEVENTH DAY [ Genesis 2:1-3] IS THE SABBATH OF THE LORD YOUR GOD [v10 God's definition of the Sabbath] : in it you shall not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger that is within your gates:{How is no work and resting and keeping the day holy} [WHY?] [11], FOR IN SIX DAYS THE LORD MADE HEAVEN AND EARTH, THE SEA, AND ALL THAT IS IN THEM IS, AND RESTED THE SEVENTH DAY; WHEREFORE THE LORD BLESSED THE SABBATH DAY AND MADE IT HOLY. [Refering to GENESIS 2:1-3]

Yep seems like plenty of why and how here are shown in the very words of God in His 4th commandment of the 10 commandments. These are God's Word dear friend not mine and they disagree with you.
Well that is not true dear friend at all. The OP simply shows the difference between shabbat and shabat and does not discard anything and says....

RESTED 7673. שָׁבַת shâbath, shaw-bath´; a prim. root; to repose, i.e. desist from exertion; used in many impl. relations (caus., fig. or spec.):—(cause to, let, make to) cease, celebrate, cause (make) to fail, keep or observe the sabbath, suffer to be lacking, leave, put away (down), (make to) rest, rid, still, take away.

The HEBREW word for REST; RESTED (שָׁבַת shâbath) is the verb of doing or keeping the SABBATH (שַׁבָּת shabbâth) which is the noun of what is being kept. REST[ED] שָׁבַת shâbath (H7673) is the root word and verb of the noun form of the Hebrew word H7676; שׁבּת; shabbâth which means intermission, that is, (specifically) the Sabbath: - (+ every) sabbath.

There was no H7676; שׁבּת; shabbâth before the first sabbath rest was created so the Hebrew Word H7676; שׁבּת; shabbâth cannot be used in GENESIS 2:1-3 as there was no noun for something that was not previously created.
Look at what you have to add, in order to change the word of God.
Yep I highlighted the scriptures in red showing the how and the why you claimed was not in God's 4th commandment within brackets to show it is not a part of the text but pointing to sections within the text showing the how and the why you claimed were not there.

So why the unfounded insinuations that I did something wrong here? As you can see here there is no truth to your claims dear friend.

Yes, It helps to expose what you do LGW.
Sooo you exposed what exactly?
The reason why the Children of Israel is commanded to keep the Sabbath does point back to the fact that God rested on the seventh day of creation. That why it's restated in the 4th commandment that God rested on the seventh day. It does not say that God rested on the Sabbath day.
You may have missed this within God's 4th commadment but EXODUS 20:10 is God's definition of the "SABBATH" and says [10], But THE SEVENTH DAY [ Genesis 2:1-3] IS THE SABBATH OF THE LORD YOUR GOD. These are God's Words not mine dear friend which is referring back to GENESIS 2:1-3 to God's REST; RESTED (שָׁבַת shâbath) which is the root word of shabbath (Sabbath) and verb of doing or keeping the SABBATH (שַׁבָּת shabbâth).
Your definition of Sabbath comment "every seventh day" changes God's rest on the seventh day of creation to working and resting beyond what's written in Gen 2:1-3.
Thankyou dear friend but I cannot take any credit for the definition it is God's definition written within Gods' 4th commandment not mine...

EXODUS 20:10 But THE SEVENTH DAY IS THE SABBATH [from Genesis 2:1-3] OF THE LORD YOUR GOD.

Hebrew and Greek Dictionaries w/TVM, Strong - H7676

Sabbath H7676 shabbâth שׁבּת
Intensive from H7673; intermission, that is, (specifically) the Sabbath: - (+ every) sabbath.

Yep God's Word not mine. What is it you disagree with? These are Gods Words not mine.
Unfortunately for you, where the Sabbath commandment explains why to keep the Sabbath. Your commentary about God keeping Sabbath is exposed. The word rested here is strongs h5117 nuwach The KJV translates Strong's H5117 in the following manner: rest (55x), ceased (1x), confederate (1x), let down (1x), set down (1x), lay (1x), quiet (2x), remain (1x), set (1x).
Exo 20:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested(h5117) the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it[/QUOTE]
Sorry what are you talking about? How does this respond to anything I have posted here? It doesn't and is not relavant. Here let me show you why. All you have posted here is a different Hebrew word being used for rested in Exodus 20:11 then what was used as the root word for Sabbath in Genesis 2:1-3 as well as all the times the word נוּח; nûach (H5117) is used. If you note from your own source you wil not find this word used for REST of RESTED used in GENESIS 2:1-3.

The Hebrew Word RESTED used in EXODUS 20:11 נוּח; nûach (H5117) is different from the Hebrew word used in GENESIS 2:1-3 which is (H7673 Shabat) which is the root word of Shabbath (Shabbath) which is H7676. The word for rested used in Exodus 20:11 is in context to ceasing work which is it's meaing which is shown in the context of Exodus 20:10-11 as shown here.

EXODUS 20:10-11, But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD your God: in it you shall not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger that is within your gates: [11], For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested [נוּח; nûach (H5117) cease from work] the seventh day: why the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Compared to...

GENESIS 2:1-3 [1], THIS THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH WERE FINISHED, AND ALL THE HOST OF THEM. [2], And ON THE SEVENTH DAY God ended his work which he had made; and he rested [שׁבת; shâbath H7673; Keep Sabbath; verb and root word for H776 שׁבּת; shabbâth] on the SEVENTH DAY from all his work which he had made.

It would not make any sense to use the Hebrew word for rest H776 שׁבּת; shabbât in EXODUS 20:11 as the context is to cease work which is why נוּח; nûach (H5117) is used in context to cease from work (Exodus 20:10-11).
Your next move will be to ignore (Wherefore ) as saying this is why the Sabbath is also blessed and made holy for them to keep it or die.
This is addressed in the previous section showing it is not relavant to your argument. Please stop with the false accusations dear friend it is getting tiring. If you disagree and wish to have a friendly discussion please address the content of the post like I do with yours. You will notice I never make personal attacks on your interpretations of the scriptures I simply show why from the scriptures I may disagree with you. Please do show some respect and do the same.

Sorry dear friend but I believe your claims here are unfounded and not biblical, as shown above through the scriptures. Please seek to have a friendly discussion or it will be best for us to agree to disagree and remain friends and friendly. Thanks for sharing your view but as you can see it is not mine as shown why through the scriptures.

I have difficulty in believing that creation took place in six days and that God needed a rest on the seventh day.

Sure looks like an account written or edited by Jews, living under the law after Exodus.

I am not saying that Adam and Eve never existed or they did not disobey God. What I am saying; is that creation is condensed into a time frame of one week. A format that an uneducated Jewish reader could comprehend, especially a Jew living thousands of years ago.

The Genesis text is a simple text written for an uneducated audience. The account of Genesis is not a scientific explanation nor an accurate historical account of human civilization.

You will create unending quarrels with other church movements if you hold, to a strict literal interpretation of Genesis. Your missing the point of Genesis, a simple Jewish account linking the Jews to the creation event itself.

Hi David,

For me I do not have any problem with the GENESIS account of a seven day creation week. It is simply based on the scriptures and is what the bible teaches as the word of God. For me when I think about it, I think it is amazing. Is anything impossible to God (except it is impossible for God to lie). He is God after all right? For me it is amazing as creation teaches the power of God's Word. God speaks it and it is so. How amazing is that. This is the Gospel to those who have faith! How simple is that? The fall of mankind was over unbelief. God said in GENESIS 2-3 not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and in the day you eat thereof you will surely die. Mankind ate and has been dying ever since. Now the gospel is by believing what God's Word says and like the centurian who JESUS says has great faith. "Speak the Word only and it shall be so". This same power that created all things is taught in creation which is the very gospel of our salvation to all those who have received Gods' Word and who believe it. All we need is a little faith to remove mountains and walk in His Spirit. I love and believe Gods Word David how about you? Here is where we see God's love for poor lost man and cannot salve himself but an almighty God who can save to the utmost.

God bless.

Hi all this discussion is on the origin of the "SEVENTH DAY SABBATH IN CREATION".

Let's remove all of the man made teachings and traditions that are out there and take the word of God and see what what God's Word says when the "SEVENTH DAY SABBATH" was created for all mankind.

Let's start in the book of GENESIS at the end of all creation on the "SEVENTH DAY OF THE CREATION WEEK" where it is written

GENESIS 2:1-3 [1], THIS THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH WERE FINISHED, AND ALL THE HOST OF THEM. [2], And ON THE SEVENTH DAY God ended his work which he had made; and he RESTED [שׁבת; shâbath H7673; Keep Sabbath] on the SEVENTH DAY from all his work which he had made.

NOTE: CREATION was finished in six days *GENESIS 1:1-31; GENESIS 2:1-2 at this time (7th Day) God RESTED *GENESIS 2:2. God then set apart the "SEVENTH DAY" from the other days of the week and "BLESSED" the "SEVENTH DAY" and made the "SEVENTH DAY" a "HOLY DAY" of "REST" as God RESTED from all the work that he had made on the "SEVENTH DAY" of creation.

QUESTION: WHERE IS THE SABBATH IN GENESIS 2:1-3 IN CREATION?

ANSWER: In "RESTING"! The Hebrew word for "RESTING; RESTED or REST"(God's REST; *GENESIS 2:2-3) is the Hebrew word and verb for "OBSERVE OR KEEP SABBATH" (שָׁבַת shâbath). It is how the Sabbath is kept

The HEBREW word for REST; RESTED (שָׁבַת shâbath) is the verb of doing or keeping the SABBATH (שַׁבָּת shabbâth) noun. שָׁבַת shâbath (H7673) is the root word and verb of the noun form of the Hebrew word H7676; שׁבּת; shabbâth which means intermission, that is, (specifically) the Sabbath: - (+ every) sabbath.

There was no H7676; שׁבּת; shabbâth before the first sabbath rest was created so the Hebrew Word H7676; שׁבּת; shabbâth cannot be used in GENESIS 2:1-3 as there was no noun for something that was not previously created.

So GENESIS 2:1-3 shows us the "ORIGIN" of Gods' "SEVENTH DAY SABBATH" in creation. It was the result of God's "FINISHED WORK" of creation where God "RESTED" from all His Works, "BLESSED" and set apart the "SEVENTH DAY" as a "HOLY DAY" OF "REST" *GENESIS 2:1-3 for "ALL MANKIND" as shown by JESUS in...

MARK 2:27 [27], And he said to them, THE SABBATH WAS MADE FOR MAN and not man for the Sabbath.

The Greek word used here for MAN is G444 ἄνθρωπος; anthrōpos From G435 and ὤψ ōps (the countenance ; from G3700); manfaced, that is, a human being: - certain, man.

Now all the above proves that God's SABBATH has it's origin in the "SEVENTH DAY" of the creation week where GOD "RESTED" (God's REST) kept the "SEVENTH DAY" and "SET IT APART" from all the other days of the week and "BLESSED THE SEVENTH DAY" as a "HOLY DAY OF REST FOR ALL MANKIND *GENESIS 2:1-3; MARK 2:27.

Let's prove this once and for all so there is no doubt (but we can still go further as we will see). We have looked at the Hebrew Word for Sabbath which is the verb for "KEEPING SABBATH or SABABTH OBSERVANCE by "RESTING", let's look now at God's 4th commandment of the 10 commandments and the Hebrew Word used here for the noun of what is being kept by "RESTING" H7676; שׁבּת; shabbâth...

EXODUS 20:8-11 [8], REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY, TO KEEP IT HOLY [Made Holy at creation GENESIS 2:3]. [9], Six days shall you labor, and do all your work: [10], But THE SEVENTH DAY [ Genesis 2:1-3] IS THE SABBATH OF THE LORD YOUR GOD : in it you shall not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger that is within your gates: [WHY?] [11], FOR IN SIX DAYS THE LORD MADE HEAVEN AND EARTH, THE SEA, AND ALL THAT IS IN THEM IS, AND RESTED THE SEVENTH DAY; WHEREFORE THE LORD BLESSED THE SABBATH DAY AND MADE IT HOLY. [Refering to GENESIS 2:1-3]

NOTE: The SABBATH in creation being part of a "FINISHED" work of God's creation we are to look back. God says "REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY TO KEEP IT HOLY" *EXODUS 20:8. What is the day that God made a HOLY DAY in GENESIS 2:1-3? It was the "SEVENTH DAY"! GENESIS 2:3 [3], And GOD BLESSED THE SEVENTH DAY AND MADE IT HOLY: because that in it he had RESTED [שׁבת; shâbath H7673; Keep Sabbath] from all his work which God created and made. Now notice in EXODUS 20:10 which day is the SABBATH DAY? [10] But THE SEVENTH DAY IS THE SABBATH OF THE LORD YOUR GOD. This is the day that God "BLESSED and set apart and made as a "HOLY DAY OF REST" in GENESIS 2:2-3. This is the day that God "RESTED" and "KEPT THE SABBATH (verb שָׁבַת shâbath H7673 to KEEP SABBATH).

Now the drum roll please....

Why are we to keep God's 4th commandment "SEVENTH DAY SABBATH"? The answer is clearly given in EXODUS 20:11 which points back to GENESIS 2:1-3 on the "SEVENTH DAY OF CREATION" [11], FOR IN SIX DAYS THE LORD MADE HEAVEN AND EARTH, THE SEA, AND ALL THAT IS IN THEM IS, AND RESTED THE SEVENTH DAY; WHEREFORE THE LORD BLESSED THE SABBATH DAY AND MADE IT HOLY. This is refering to GENESIS 2:1-3 nearly word for word.

BOOM! Did you catch that? God's Word says in the 4th Commandment of God's 10 Commandment, that the first SABBATH has its ORIGIN from the "SEVENTH DAY" of creation quoting GENESIS 2:1-3!

As shown above the scriptures alone clearly teach that God's SEVENTH DAY SABBATH from God's 4th commandment has its origin in GENESIS 2:1-3 on the "SEVENTH DAY" of the creation week where God "BLESSED" and made the "SEVENTH DAY" a "HOLY DAY" of "REST" (verb שָׁבַת shâbath H7673 to KEEP SABBATH).

Want more????

This links directly into the new testament scriptures of believing the gospel of our Lord JESUS Christ here...

HEBREWS 4:1-11
[1], Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into HIS REST, any of you should seem to come short of it.
[2], For to us was the gospel preached, as well as to them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
[3], For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into MY REST: ALTHOUGH THE WORKS WERE FINISHED FROM THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD.
[4], FOR HE SPOKE IN A CERTAIN PLACE (GENSIS 2:1-3) OF THE SEVENTH DAY ON THIS WISE, AND GOD DID REST THE SEVENTH DAY FROM ALL HIS WORKS.
[5], And in this place again, If they shall enter into MY REST.

NOTE
: CONTEXT is God's REST from the SEVENTH DAY SABBATH REST OF CREATION (v4-5) and those who BELIEVE and FOLLOW GOD's WORD enter into God's SABBATH REST as GOD did on the SEVENTH DAY of the week. CONTEXT is GOD's SEVENTH DAY SABBATH REST and those who BELIEVE AND FOLLOW GOD'S WORD enter into that rest which God's WORD defines as the SEVENTH DAY SABBATH which is GOD'S REST!

HEBREWS 4:9 SO THEN IT REMAINS FOR THE PEOPLE OF GOD TO KEEP THE SABBATH.

May God bless you as you seek him through his Word.

The Sabbath was designed as a day for rest.

When the law of Moses was added, there were specific ordinances
added that carried specific requirements for the children of Israel, such as death to those who picked up sticks to kindle a fire.

You shall keep the Sabbath, therefore, for it is holy to you. Everyone who profanes it shall surely be put to death; for whoever does any work on it, that person shall be cut off from among his people. Work shall be done for six days, but the seventh is the Sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death. Exodus 31:14-15

Since Jesus came and these ordinances were taken out of the way, having been nailed to the cross, the Sabbath has simply returned to its original mandate of being a day for man to rest.

And He said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. Mark 2:27

So how does a person go about observing the Sabbath today, under the New Covenant?

Can we cook?
Can we travel?
Can we make our bed?

What specifically did Jesus and His Apostles teach, because anything outside of what Jesus specifically taught is a man made teaching.

To be crystal clear, the 10 Commandments has not been abolished or done away with.

The only question is how the Church is to observe the Sabbath today, under the New Covenant.

True Sabbath was established as a day of rest, but was it for mankind of the Children of Israel? (please provide scriptures)
Are you implying that the Sabbath was made at creation for mankind? If so, what scriptures supports that understanding.

The Sabbath here is defined as the "seventh day of the week" *EXODUS 20:10. It shows "the seventh day" is a memorial of creation and a celebration of God as the creator of heaven and earth and that this day is a "holy day" of resting where we are not to do our own work.

We're going in circles, I don't agree with anything you're saying. Thanks for being cordial.
