  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Opera webbrowser questions

Since Opera made their browser ad-free not too long ago, maybe we could make this topic stick to the top of the page? I imagine a lot of people recently started using Opera, and there must be others having questions, too.

But, I guess there are also those who have been using Opera forever, and know how it works, so I'll try asking here.

Is there a way to make Opera automatically reload pages when you re-visit them? Around CF for example, it doesn't reload anything. That means I have to manually reload my user CP to see if there are any new replies to subscribed threads, and then I have to manually reload the topic lists and the list of posts inside each topic. I guess it isn't supposed to be like that? It would be easier if it just reloaded pages that had changed since last visit automatically.

Could this be done?

Let's see.. hmmm...

I am not exactly clear what you're problem is, so this may be wrong.

Go to Preferences in the Tools section on top, then go to Advanced. There, select History and there should be three sections in the bottom: Check documents, check images, and check others. Change the default values to Always.

Again, I wasn't clear if this is your problem or not. If it's not, sorry.

Based on this thread and the fact that I downloaded Opera during their recent 10th anniversary offer I decided to take it for a spin. Looks cool. At this moment I'm seeing if everything I do in Firefox can be done in Opera before I decide to switch over to making it my default browser. Do I need the Sage plug-in I use in Firefox for RSS feeds? And I don't see my bookmarks on the left in a panel like I do in Firefox (I read about "panels" and I right clicked on the toolbar area for Configuation but the "panels" tab already shows Bookmarks checked, but I don't see them...I guess there's something else I need to do). Of course, I could Google about this but figured since this thread was running in CF I'd be a little lazy and ask for hints. Right now I'm cautiously excited because Opera does look really cool as long as I can do everything I currently do in Firefox.

No.

I'm not clear on what you mean, but there is a small sideways triangle on the left, which needs to be clicked.

Thanks indianx...I looked but couldn't see a small sideways triangle...so I snooped around in the drop down menus and under View - Toolbars there was Panels and when I checked that I got bookmarks visible on the left like I'm used to in Firefox (plus other cool stuff like Notes and Transfers).

On the RSS feed question, I didn't realize how stupid that question was until I saw "Feeds" as a main drop down menu item in Opera. Woops. Sorry. I also see how clicking on the RSS logo on a site triggers Opera to ask if I want the feed added.

Thanks for your help!

Maybe you had the browser Maximised, that could make it harder to spot... Anyway, it's on the left-hand side of the browser... far left, at 50% on your Y axis, the browser "chrome" looks to be twice the thickness of the chrome on the right side.
