• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Most of mine are regional

Michianna = The regional area along the border of Michigan and Indiana.

LP = LaPorte (town where I grew up)
SB = South Bend (Live just outside right now)
City = Michigan City, IN (Yes its in Indiana not Michigan)
Chi-Town = Chicago
The Lake = Lake Michigan

Example "We're going to leave LP at 10 AM LP time swing by City and visit the lake, drive on over to SB and take the train to Chi-town for some shopping"

Slang between my daughter and me that we made up when seeing an attractive man in his late 20's or early 30's, he's a TOFU, too old for you, too young for me. Don't know how we got TOFU outta that, but it works. :D
haha thats cute!

I know lots of the ones you guys have mentioned so far! I guess they spread around well.

some michigan slanguage:

"up north" = Commonly used to indicate where one goes for vacation. Usually still within the state of Michigan. Could be anywhere from 30 mins north of your location to the Upper Peninsula.

"The Deuce/Ace Deuce/ A Squared/ A2" = Ann Arbor, Michigan, my hometown.

"Trolls" = those of us who live in the Lower Peninsula (underneath the Mackinac Bridge)

"Yoopers" - folks from the UP (Upper Peninsula)

"Funny Money" = Canadian money (in my area we could spend Canadian coinage and nobody would care or notice, but my family still called it funny money because it was worth less than Us money)

"Cooies" = family slang for candles

chicago/illinois slanguage: (i'm still learning this)

The City = always Chicago proper.

towards the Lake = how to say "go east" (towards Lake Michigan)

I'll have to think of more...

Lake effect = Lake effect snow . . . for those who live or have lived by the great lakes you know exactly what this is. For the rest of you its very heavy snow, usually in mass quantities that is caused by the nearby body of water that I offically hate.

Dumped on = probably a common term but its a term referring to a geographical location getting a lot of snow.

basement = the underground level of a house. not called a cellar!

pitcher = a vessel for holding/pouring drinks. my canadian relatives had no concept of this word used in this way. i suppose another word could be "jug"

I wasn't aware that was slang.

Stold = stole

I stold it!
