• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

how many remember these?

We want to go back to these for this forum if we can get the word around to everyone. The reason is because we just dont know how to help folks who just want to talk to MJs in here.... The [open] tags worked in the past to help folks identify which threads were open to all, and the ones without the[open] tags were for MJ's only(messianic's who either went to an MJ congregation or worshiped/practiced at home)

I think that will help satisfy the folks who at times want a more private discussion with MJs only:thumbsup:

Thoughts?
Anyone remember these?

The problem is that some people might not know to put that it in the thread title, and then those of us who are not MJ will get somehow punished for participating - even though the OP wanted to hear from everyone.

I suggest the OPPOSITE approach. That is, we should have a tag to designate that a thread is devoted only to MJs, and any thread that isn't specifically devoted will be open.

I agree with Yonah. I remember the [open] not working well because people
would simply forget to use it. When Jews used to have full posting rights here,
I would always forget to use the [open] tag when I started a thread. Many times
I had people PM me and ask me to open the thread. It's far simpler for someone
to just ask for Messianics only to reply to a thread if that is what they desire, rather
than deal with the [open] tags again. Just my opinion.

I think we just need to be honest here....if people do not want non-Messianics
posting here, just say so. If it is the view of the majority, then simply change
it so that none but those with a Torah icon can post here. Any other icon,
including the menorah, would not be welcome to participate. Perhaps I'm wrong,
but I've always had the opinion people enjoyed discussing with us...do most
people here really want us gone? Or is it just a select few? I see using the [open]
tag as just a way to keep non-Messianics from posting. Am I mistaken?

As far as the poll goes, I voted "yes' because I understand how the [open] tag
works. However, that doesn't mean I support it's use.

Often when I ask a question I would like responses from either MJs or Jewish people, but not from other Christians as I know broadly their views. But by putting barriers up for MJs only does that mean that the Jews wouldnt be able to write either?

I don't remember them so I can only go with the majority - and it looks like open to all or tagged for MJs only?
Anyway, what Yonah, Ani and Shimshon say.

Chava,
I LOVE it that you and the "gang" are here. There are times the place would be rather dry if not for one or another of you guys. You're an integral part of our neck of the woods. ;)

All of you members think this is a great idea; as do I:thumbsup::thumbsup:.

In the Denomination Specific Theology Forum, we have allowed members to Specify and restrict which group/Church/Denomination is allowed to respond to their thread. There they do so in the original post itself. If it were done with a tag, and again posted in the OP, there should be no question as to who may or may not post there.

I think if we were to proceed with this the addition of an explanation of this in the SoP, or even a sticky about this alone would be in order.

Thoughts?

I think the tag should be [MJO]. Add that tag to the title of a thread when the OP want's "Messianic Judaism (members) Only".

That way when we see [MJO] in a title we know it is for Messianic Jewish Only replies.

Can't say I would ever use such a tag, but for the sake of those who need the fence, why not.

However, I do not think this is going to solve the issue here. You have a group holding one icon that has two completely divergent theologies. When you solve that problem, you won't have this one. just sayin.....

Sounds perfect to me.

There is a difference between a Messianic Judaism[a faith] and a Messianic Jew [a bloodline and a faith]. A Messianic Judaism person is one who believes in the faith of the Messiah and going back to the roots of the faith, while the Messianic Jew can be of the Sunday keeping Jew who likes to keep Judaism and Christianity apart not only in their own life but that of others.
