This term came to me as I was looking at some information on the Internet today. In trying to find a clear definition for the word "open-source" I found some applications of the term used other then in the world of software development. As some of you know "open-source" describes a type of software that has its source code left open for anyone to modify and change in the hopes that the original released software will be improved or expanded. Though this is part of the meaning it is not exclusively its whole meaning, there are restrictions see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_Source_Definition . The use of this word has now been assimilated into other realms such as government, media, and also ethics.
For the sake of this thread I am restricting its use to my view of what many Christian churches large and small have become or have started leaning towards.
My view of this phenomenon should be limited to those that believe the Word of God written in the Bible is the inerrant word of God and that the words written cannot be changed or modified. (Matthew 5:18 KJV For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.)
With that in mind I hope to get the different views of the interpretations of the Bible that exist. What are the dangers seen in this? What are views of those who think this is a viable tool for the growth of the Church?
