  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

OOC: Memories

Hey WoF. Could I join? I could use a few more active threads, even if it is a slower pace.

I haven't read up on the thread yet, so this question might be moot, but do you have the mage handled yet? If not, I would like to take that role. If I can, I would like to expound on the Thokka dancers. If that isn't okay, then I'll have to read the thread before I get any more ideas.

Also, a small note about the vampiric virus as I intended it: it is something that will either a) corrupt the infected so as to make them evil, or b) if the corruption is resisted, it will eventually cause delusions and ultimately death. A person may be able to resist the virus for decades, but it will either make them evil or kill them. Whether WoF wants to hold to that is up to her, but I intended the viral vampire to be like the classical vampire, and all classical vampires are demonic. Just something to consider,

Oh boy!

LoH? We won't be making it to the actual mana wielder's guild for a LONG time. You might want to rethink that intro.

Shadow? Who says a party can't have more than one mana wielder? If you would also like to more with the Thokka dancers that would be nice, too, as a party could always use more methods of healing. :D You are more than welcome, just read the first three posts in this OOC, send me a character link (or post it here) for approval and you are good to go.

Syl? You may want to rethink the whole vampire thing, I dunno. I wonder if there's anything close. Half-vampire? One quarter? We should discuss this because I do want to stick to what the Christia Committee agreed upon while at the same time giving players freedom in character creation. Time to put the thinking caps on. There has to be a way for you to have something equally creepy/captivating.

Oh crud! I missed a whole bunch of OOC posts!

Terribly sorry. I only read the first 40 posts (the first page for me). Let me read what I missed and maybe I'll make more sense. Sorry again.

Okay, after having read all the OOC posts (And half of the IC posts) here are some ideas:
1) I had meant the mage you mentioned in the explanitory post at the beginning. But, I don't know when you wanted to join the mage in, or what plans you had for him.
2) The virus can take decades before the corruption completes itself, but during that time, he would still act like a vampire, needing blood and all that. So, Daniel might only be a few years into it, or, well, more or less a few years. So maybe he's just not as infected yet, or he has a strong resistance. Otherwise, he would have to be a racial vampire.
3) Not all Thokka dancers are healers. The Sjora school (which taught Mercy) primarily works passivist mana, but there are three other schools. So... flushing out.

--Vampires:
There are two creatures known as vampires; there is a bloodline and there is a virus. The blood line, while uncertain, is believed to be a mix of elf, imp, and troll. The race suffers from a protein deficiency, and as blood is the highest source of protein, they often use blood as a food source or a drink. They also share the troll’s weakness to the sun, and their skin can become ash if overexposed to sunlight. The virus, however, is what could be considered the traditional vampire.

-Evil races:
No race is inherently evil, and every sentient being can choose for themselves to follow God or reject Him. For some races, it is an easier choice to reject as their cultures are steeped in various pagan believes, whether it is polytheistic, atheistic, or agnostic in one form or another. However, every sentient creature has a choice, and there are no intrinsically evil races.
Based on this excerpt from the linked section above, I would say Daniel might possibly be a hybrid of human/elven/bloodline vampire? I put that in form of a question because it's just a suggestion, Syl.

Shadow? The second paragraph quote above seems in contradict your previous post that the vampire would be evil. Let's clear all this up so Syl can get to posting. :)

And Shad? No need to read the entire OOC, just the first three posts. Thanks for bringing yourself up to speed though.

About the mana wielder, I'll handle him. As to the Thokka dancers? It would be interesting to see a complete narrative on what you've created there, but for purposes of getting you a character approved just get me something pertaining to that character for now.

Racial vampires are not evil, but viral vampires are. Like I said, I intended the viral vampires to be classical vampires, which were always evil or\and demonic in nature. The undead vampire, if you will.
The racial\bloodline vampire, however, had many of the same characteristics without needing to be evil. I thought I would include it as a way to play "good vampire" characters, or else to "retcon" for those good vampires of past stories.

However, to "retcon" Sly's character, we can make the virus resistible to some extent. If the virus is accepted, then they become the undead, evil vampire. If the virus is rejected, then it will slowly destroy the host, making them eventually delusional, and ultimately dead.

I think that Sly can stay the way he is; he's already played into the delusional part a little with his thoughts to slaughter Summer and co.. That's the sort of thing the virus would do.

I learned the phrase "retcon."

Make sense?

P.S. I have GTalk, but I'm only on by request.

Anyway, I'll get working on a character. Quick question: where are they?

Hey Shaderack, my take on the vampire/virus thing?

"Evil" is a pretty general term... it's like an empty box into which can be placed just about anything, entirely dependent on who you ask. It's largely a matter of personal position. Without going into more philosophical debate, I would like to suggest we not use the term in this context. We're talking about a viral infection here. A disease. Mentally ill people can exhibit behaviors that are threatening to people around them, but that does not itself make them evil. I'd say that in order for something to be characterized as evil, some very specific elements need to be present. They include:

1) The conscious intention to harm others, or to seek gain at the expense of others
2) The narcissistic denial or distortion of truth for the sole purpose of self-interest
3) The rejection of the absolute sovereignty of God

That being said, I would say that the virus would actually work like this:

1) The victim becomes infected
2) The infection spreads through the body, progressively altering biological processes to manifest X symptoms
3) The victim is then in a situation in which he/she must prey on others in order to survive.

This would then increase the predisposition towards evil to an immense degree. Even if a person managed to cling to any sense of goodness, the dissonance between action and ideals would tend to encourage them to utilize rationalization to justify the action and make it appear "right" (distortion of truth). This leads almost effortlessly into the denial of anything associated with the forrmer goodness, including God.

This way, choice and free will are accounted for, and since the option of choice is still open, I can see several ways for the vampire to remain good.. Drink animal blood, for instance. Or beg for donations. :p

Look, the point is this: Vampires, historically, have always been evil. In fact, in the original accounts, they are demonic; this is the reason that vampires hate\fear crosses.

Recently, however, a fad of "good vampires" has been prevalent, and I wanted a way to accommodate or explain that possibility. At the same time, I wanted to stay true to the classic vampire model without using strict demonism; i.e. a bite on the neck makes you a demon. So I devised the virus idea. Classical vampires would be attributed to the virus, while good vampires could be blood line.

But, both MD and Sly have made good points. I think that the virus should be something that can be resisted, but will ultimately either warp or kill the host. So, basically, Daniel has a death sentence on him.

Shad,

They are in the Elven Forest of Oialisse. Astrid looks wonderful, wanna have her run into Summer? And it's funny, but she and Summer have similar looks. Same hair and eye color, nearly the same height. Summer is a bit heavier though. Don't know about the skin color for Astrid, but Summer's is typical Native American, she has her father's coloring, but her mother's eyes and classic features.

About the vampirism, I think Shad has done a good job of giving people options here. The viral vamp is evil, while the genetic vamp is a free agent. What is the disconnect? Besides, we haven't even heard from Syl on this yet. I want his input, it IS his character. I've pm'd him.

While we wait, GAME OOOON!
