Do you believe the scriptures are inspired by God?

  • Beyond a shadow of a doubt! 100%.

  • No, it is simply another history book written by men.

  • It is simply a storybook to guide you through life. It contains no direct commandments from God.

  • Fiction. Pure Fiction.

it scares me that htere are so many ministers who teach that you cannot take everything in the bible literally. If not then how do you choose what is true and what isn t . it s either all or nothing.

what scares me is the fact that they are ministers. Ministers who are to take and speak the literal Word and Truth of the Bible. Let us pray that these ministers open their eyes or stop ministering under false pretenses.

The Bible is 100% the word of God. To say any different would be.......I can't even think or imagine.

100% INSPIRED, 100% GOD-BREATHED...

I too am thankful to find many others who believe this as well. On my campus (a Christian college) I find that many disagree with this wholeheartedly. It is refreshing to see people of many denominations all agreeing about this

100% inspired by God...One thing I find amazing about God's Word is that it speaks to the soul unlike any other "book". You can read one particular scripture 20 times but the next time you come across it, It could speak to your heart with unparalleled clarity and meaning. One thing I liken this to are the angels circling God in Heaven(found in Revelation). They are crying "Holy, Holy, Holy" every time they make a trip around him because they see another side of his wonder. God's Word is the same way...

I know I have already posted that I know Bible to be the inspired written word of God but I would like to share why I don't just believe it I know it.

First like any writing the Bible is open to private interpretation.  There are different translations of the original languages the Bible was written in.  I knew this to be so in my early days and questioned God as to how could one possibly really know what you meant when you had it written so long ago and even by men who would use there own language to define your meaning and intent.  My answer came with this verse

John 14:26 But when the Father sends the Counselor as my representative—and by the Counselor I mean the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I myself have told you.

I concluded from this verse that God himself through the Holy Spirit would show me what was really intended and what He really meant by what is written in the Bible.  I no longer had to worry about being mislead by misunderstanding of the Word of God because He promised me He would teach me and show me the truth.

I believed Him and took it in faith and went.  He has proven to me personally His words that have been written.  I know who they belong to and I know what they mean and what was intended.  I don't know all of it just a speck.  But the speck is enough to take what I now know and believe the rest of it in hope of the day that I will see it all fulfilled.

He shows me others that know the truth about Him and I learn from them as well for the Holy Spirit in me confirms this and bears witness to the word.

I'm Thankful to you Lord that you have fulfilled your promise to me.  I am thankful to you Lord that I know your word to be yours and that I don't just believe anymore about certain parts I know.  I post this Lord for those who might read it that they may be edified and that it bring you Glory.  So Lord please annoint what is written here for your Glory.  I would have this for you Lord because of what you did for me.  Thank you Jesus I love you.

I can't put my answer, as you don't seem to allow for "true, but not always 100% literal" or "true with occasional errors introduced by human writers and translators". In fact, a lot of answers seem to be ruled out by this poll...

when you say 100% literal, do you mean parables shouldn't be taken as if they were literal? or do you mean even greater things, such as Jonah being a story....

IOW....can you expound on your position?

2 Timothy 3:16 "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness."
If the Bible is inspired by God, then there is no room for 'human error'. If there is human error then it was not inspired by God.
Do you believe that some was inspired by God and some was not? Can you explain what it is you believe about scriptures? (Let's all try to remember this is not meant to be a debate thread.) Just want to know where you stand.

In fact, a lot of answers seem to be ruled out by this poll...
What answers would you have liked to see in this poll?

Mixee, I am glad you have posed this question in the form and manner in which you have. It makes the choice so simple and clear. It elimanates the middle ground and seperates the sheep from the goats, as it were.

Of course, as born again believers we accept God's Word as inspired, inerrant, and infallible. The Gnostics attitude of "superior knowledge" would have us to believe that because there are versions that may seem to contain errors in translations, that the Word of God, Itself, is suspect. We, as born again Christians, KNOW that is not so.

There are no other answers that would be fitting, necessary, or appropriate in this poll. The question is simple. Do you believe it or not. It is yes or no, and there is no middle ground.

You cannot be half a Christian. Either you will follow Christ or you will not.
Jesus said:

Matthew 6:24: "No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon."

The fact is, if there is ONE error in the Word of God, you may as well throw the whole thing in the trash, for how can you know what else is true and what is a lie.

No, there is no middle gound. It is black or white, true or false. Just like marriage and pregnancy; either you are or you are not.

ooh Gerry, sometimes the Spirit just pours out of you. This too has been what I have been hearing, not just in the Word of God, but in every action and thought of our lives. Who do we follow, who do we trust?

You cannot be half a Christian. Either you will follow Christ or you will not.
