Online preorder of pc game?

If i preorder a pc game online, do i recieve it the same day it would be released in stores? Also are there any online stores that would sell the game for a few $ cheaper? I want to get a "collectors edition" Of a game that comes out. I doubt that i can find it localy. Also often times the game isnt put on the shelf on the day of release, so i want to be sure to get the version i want on the day it is released.

Also do they charge you for it on the day of preorder, or the day it is sent out. Do most places charge shipping to send it?

Guild wars, eye of the north ,is the game i am going to be getting.

It really depends on where you preorder it from.
And each place is different, you'd have to look on their prices and how and when they'll ship it.

Pre-order means you'll have it "ON"the day of release. There is a copy reserved for you and your guaranteed a copy of it (some games sell out quickly, before you get to a store). Normally all stores have the same price for games, the RRP (recommended retail price), maybe some online store may have it cheaper due to less overhead costs.

Pre-ordering doesn't cost more than the game itself, and sometimes they may give you a poster or T-shirt to thank you for the pre-order. However depending on where you pre-order they may or may not send it to you and same with shipping costs.

It depends on the merchant and when they are able to ship. Most of the time, you should have the game by release day. However, sometimes they aren't able to get it out by that exact day.

Thank you all for the replies. I know i am normaly about 3 shipping days from california, but that means that the local places are as well. I will go down and talk to my local store "hastings" and see what they think the delivery normaly is if i order it through them. Its the same group of guys who have worked there for years so i think they wil be pretty acurate on the release date.

I figure that could be at least a little bit faster than if it is sent from an online store 1 day early then it has a three day trek.

actual stores usually receive games a couple of days before release date, so they have them on release date

depending on the place you buy from, they may ship on release date, or ship so you will receive it on release date
