• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

A year ago, I was drinking and abusing Vicodin. I also was cutting myself in acting out. I went to the psych ward of my local hospital, and then was transferred after six days to a drug and alcohol rehab. Tomorrow, I will have one full year of sobriety.

I have a sponsor, and am currently on Step Nine. I go to regular AA meetings, and pray each day for sobriety.

I hated rehab a great deal, for a lot of reasons. Today, I called my inpatient rehab therapist, as well as my outpatient rehab therapist. They were integral in me getting the sobriety I have today.

I am not new to AA. I have been coming around for over 20 years. I previously had over 8 years at one time, and then 6 years before my two year relapse. It was my first time in rehab a year ago.

Just sharing what God is doing in my life and program.

Congratulations on your success. May God continue to guide you and watch over you on your journey. Temptation is a most difficult struggle, and we all go through it. Even Jesus was tempted by the devil, while he was fasting in the dessert. The devil tempted him when he was "weak", because he was hungry, and the devil tried to persuade him to make bread.

Luke 4
1 Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2 where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry.

3 The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.” 4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone.”

Can you imagine not eating for 40 days, and you know at any given moment you can make bread and eat. Jesus used scripture to defeat Satan. The Word is our sword, as mentioned in Ephesians 6. I recommend memorizing some scriptures to recite when you are being tempted. Satan has no chance when we use our heavenly armour.

Ephesians 6

13 Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. 14 Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. 15 For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. 16 In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. 17 Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.
