I have been a member of christianforums.com for about a week now. Unfortunately, my experience on christianforums.com has not been positive. I am surprised at all the condemning/judgmental comments and snarky or rude comments from people who are supposedly Christians....

The anonymity of the Internet does not give a person the right to be rude or hateful to other people.

Right now, I am feeling as if I want to give up on God....give up on faith in Jesus Christ....

I am a 37 year old Asian-American man.

I was diagnosed with depression in 2002 during my final year at university.

I was diagnosed with major depression and Generalized Anxiety Disorder/panic attacks in 2013.

Most of my depression/anxiety/panic attacks and most of my anger problems stem from my unhealthy relationship with my narcissistic father.

My 70 year old narcissistic Korean father is verbally abusive. My father has always been verbally abusive. He was physically abusive as well. Thankfully, the physical abuse ended during my second year at university.

My wife and I have been separated for almost 5 years. For all practical purposes, our marriage ended in 2012. I am unable to contact my 8 year old daughter (My wife and my daughter live in South Korea).

What a lovely daughter! I'm sorry people have been rude here. There are rude people everywhere, sad to say. But I'm glad you're here! Just ignore the rudies and enjoy the niceness.

I am so sorry you have not had good experiences yet here We are a good forum but have many different people.

I'm sorry about your depression too - it is so, so hard to deal with sometimes. I'm glad you are posting here in our community and hope you find positive vibes and areas you for you.

Hello Korean-American Christian,

I'm sorry to hear that some of our fellow Christians on CF are giving you a hard time. Since I have not had the opportunity to interact or converse with you, I'm not aware of what was said, but they shouldn't be 'pushing' you around.

Just try to remember that not all people here are Christians, and that even some of those here who claim to be Christians come from some overly stringent backgrounds and/or churches where mercy and grace aren't fully sown into their message.

Anyway, it frustrates me too, sometimes. But, please, realize that a number of us here do care and understand that you have to battle depression and other negative feelings.

A person is a treasure when they have genuine compassion for someone with mental health issues without having had them themselves, but online is not generally a place to expect to find them, Christian or not. Perhaps it would be easier on you to limit your posts outside the mental health forums?

Hello, and welcome to CF.

I am VERY sorry to hear you've had a bad experience so far. We do all we can to keep such comments from happening, or remove them when they do. I'm not sure which forums you have participated in so far, but some are, by their very nature, much more - antagonistic - than some others. Particularly the ones that allow members who may have very little in common theologically to have discussions, since these are matters that are very important to most, and some haven't learned how to appreciate others and speak kindly.

Please do report when that happens. And if I can help you find forum areas you may like better, please let me know. Perhaps one of the congregational areas, or fellowship type forums?

I am also very sorry about your situation. You have my prayers. I went through the same situation in reverse - a bad divorce where for some years my (ex)husband and his lady friend took my daughter and I didn't know where she was, though we were supposed to have shared custody. It can be heartbreaking, I know. I wish I could help beyond prayers. I hope you are able to restore contact, at least?

Again, welcome to CF. I hope you begin to find it more if a supportive atmosphere. Please let us know if we can help, and please DO report any abusive posts. They ARE against site rules, but we depend on members to help catch them. I hope you don't have any more though.

(By the way, it is also against the rules to state or imply that another member is not a Christian. Those kinds of posts are best reported as well, and not even dignified with a reply. That might stop them doing it altogether - even if it has to be enforced - where arguing might not.)

I don't report everything that breaks the rules, either. Just the stuff that really upsets me or fragrantly breaks them. It is the internet, after all.
