  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do you believe in the doctrine: "Once Saved Always saved?"

I can think of one scripture where I believe there is proof for this doctrine. John 10:25-30. There are tons of videos on YouTube saying that is not correct. I love my God and I know I am not perfect and have been delivered many times from others and my shortsightedness. Please explain either for or against that teaching. Thanks.

I agree. Once Jesus paid for our sins. We become his "bond" servants and where he sends us, we should go and where he uses us, we should obey. Someone saying that we can lose our salvation is saying simply that: "Someone can buy us back from Jesus" which that in itself ISN'T BIBLICAL! People on Youtube should rethink and study what the scriptures say.

Jesus is our saviour once he is accepted in your life. Satan has been deliberately released on Earth to awaken the faith planted in our hearts so we can learn from our sinful mistakes and be forgiven. Wrong sexual pleasure is a powerful deception and Satan would use it to confuse and make athiests see Christianity as a 'dirty' religion. True Christian love should be between an adult male and female couple. Because of sin committed by Adam and Eve, sex has become a genital fascination with homosexuality and other perverse acts accepted by Satan. I cannot judge any Christian who have sexually sinned and been forgiven for repeating the same sinful sexual act. To be saved is to avoid repeating the same sin. Only God can judge your true worth in heaven. Sexual love is a difficult subject and I hear that there are Christian homosexuals. If heaven only allows marriage between adult couples like Adam and Eve then God would have to transform one of the homosexual couples so that the couples can become male and female, not male and male or female and female.

1 Peter 1:14 – Peter warns that, as obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance. Thus, you can first be ignorant, then receive the truth and become obedient, and later revert back to the passions of your former ignorance. which implies that one can lose saving grace.

We can't lose our salvation. My dad says we can lose our faith. We belong to Jesus because he owns us since he bought us with his death on the cross.

Rom. 5:2 - we rejoice in the "hope" (not the certainty) of sharing the glory of God. If salvation is absolutely assured after accepting Jesus as Savior, why would Paul hope?

I believe it to an extent. I don't think that once you're saved, then you're guaranteed into heaven. I believe that once saved, you'll never fully leave the christian faith. No matter how far away you fall from it, you'll always have that voice telling you to do what's right.

Sounds like a subject better for a theology forum, they post on that a lot.

I see the question as potentially controversial: some hold to this as a doctrine of a particular church they belong to. It is abstract and open to wide interpretation, so there are many ways to view it.

It is not said this way in Scripture, so it is not a quote from Scripture like "love your enemies".

There are some statements which speak, for instance, of "the elect" which could be taken to mean this... but there is wider context there needed to be understood.

If anything stands out on this matter, to me it is:

Matthew 7

21"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' 23Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'
The Wise and Foolish Builders

24"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."

And:

2 Peter 1:10 (New International Version)

10Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure.

Confidence is good and comes by doing the will of God, specifically, I believe, to paraphrase John from his second letter, 'if the word remains in you, He remains in you'. If one is not doing what Jesus asked you to do, then how is the word remaining in you?

Jesus said specifically, 'put into practice my teachings'.

Anyone who continually puts into practice the teachings of Jesus know their salvation is sure and if they ever do doubt they can go to those teachings and be relieved of that doubt.

But those who say "Lord Jesus, Lord Jesus" but ignore his teachings -- are they wise to be confident?

Obviously many out there have lived their whole lives as "Christian" and as very "religious" speaking very much about Jesus... but never knew Jesus at all. This is clear from history.

God does not play favorites.

On the other hand, the darkness often brings slander and doubt in which Christians can find themselves believing lies of the Evil One, such as "I must be damned forever" or "I can never be saved" and so on. You can always be saved.

Not all concern for salvation is wrong, however and if anything a great number of people clearly are not concerned at all about whether or not they have eternal life.

One who has been made sure and continues to make themselves sure everyday has a confidence which is unassailable. This stone put in one's heart by God is not movable and so we know it is put there not by ourselves, but by God.

Yes the Bible does teach once saved always saved with such scripture as

John 3:14-18 (NKJV)14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

John 10:28-30 28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand. 30 I and My Father are one.”

I love that part because it says that first they have eternal life and will never perish and then it says that no on is able to take them and not only are you in His (Christ) hands, but His hands are in the Fathers hands and no one can take anything from His Father so you're double protected.

Other scriture to support once saved always saved are Romans 8:38-39, Ephesians 4:30, and Jude 24, among others.

And now as far as some of those scriptures that people want to us the support "losing your salvation". That have always been taken out of context. Always read the whole chapter before making a decision about what a certain scripture says.

The way the Bible says thing about lets say Mark 3:29 (which is a favorite among those that do not believe once saved always saved) 29 but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnation”—

Seems to be pretty straight forward right? If you blashpeme God you go to hell... ok well now lets look at Mark 3:28-30 28 “Assuredly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they may utter; 29 but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnation”— 30 because they said, “He has an unclean spirit.”

First Jesus said that all your sins will be forgiven (by beliving in Him) but they that blaspheme the holy spirit will never have forgivness because they have an unclean spirt. If we could look at the Greek we would see that the way that verse 29 is written is a perfect tense which mean it would be better written he who blasphemes and continues to blaspheme the Holy Spirit. It is a lifestyle and one that a true Christian could never live according to 2 Corinthians 5:17 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Now just because we're saved forever doesn't mean we can continue in sin according to Romans 6:1-4 (NKJV) 1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? 3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

So I hope that this helps your faith and Christian life. :)

If you think you can lose your salvation, guess what, YOU WILL. If you think your salvation depends on your strengths and efforts, guess what, YOU'LL NEVER GET TO HEAVEN. Salvation is from God. He saves you, He keeps you. 1 John 3:9 "No one who is born of God will continue to sin [practice sin], because God's seed remains in him. He CAN NOT go on sinning." So if you see a "brother" or "sister" that continues in sin and God isn't chastising, punishing or correcting them and it goes on for long periods of time, you have to start asking yourself "are they really saved?" Alot of people will throw out Hebrews 10:26-30 and think that shows loss of salvation, but 1 John 3:9 destroys that concept, because no one who is truly born again will continue to deliberately sin. If you can lose your salvation, what's the point of the Helmet of Salvation? How can you stand victorious in Christ against Satan, if you fall and end up in hell? The bible says that God punishes His children when they're screwing around, and puts them back on track. Salvation is by grace, so NO ONE can boast. No one in heaven is going to say, "I kept my salvation." It's all God's work! All glory and praise go to Him. What's the point of having joy in Christ, if you can possibly end up in hell. That's why the bible says to examine yourself, to see if you really are in the faith or really are saved. You are either a child of God, or of the devil. You're not going back and forth. Where's the imaginary line that one can cross and be back on the path to hell? Where? When the bible says, "if you remain" or "if you continue" that's just a way of showing that true faith, is the one that lasts until the end. The bible clearly says, "He who started a good work in you, WILL FINISH IT until the day of Jesus Christ." Those of you in the "you can lose your salvation" crowd, you need to start examining yourself if you really are saved.

Years back I wrestled with this, and the one verse I couldn't really find another explanation for, other than "once saved always saved" is this:

And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified. (Rom 8:30)

If you can lose your salvation, that means you can be called, justified, but *not* glorified. But the verse seems to say if you're justified you're also glorified.

To me, it comes down to how it impacts your spiritual life. If you believe you can lose salvation and you still live in the love and security of the Savior, more power to you. BUT, I've known of people who lived in fear of losing their salvation, and people who never knew if they were really saved. They would "commit" their lives to Christ over and over, not knowing if each or any of them would stick. In other words, if believing in losing salvation causes you to spiritually stumble, I'd wrestle with it and ask God whether it's true.

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only son that all who believe in Him would not perish but have everlasting life."

It's pretty clear here that if you believe in Jesus, that He forgives you and rebukes you of your sins, that while you believe in His salvation you will not perish, but will have everlasting life.

According to my understanding of the matter, it is only those who choose to deny that Jesus is Christ, the son of God who will not enter the kingdom of Heaven. You shouldn't be too worried about earning your way to Heaven, just be honest with your self and with God that your heart is demonstrating your best effort to please Him in all you think and do.

We are all saved by the blood of Yeshua/Jesus. All we have to do is accept what HE did on the CROSS! The word excruciating comes from Latin which means: "Out of The Cross". No one can't fathom what our LORD and Savior Jesus the Christ did for us on the Cross. Blessed be the Name of The LORD! :p
