• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

On the spectrum, don't want to be "healed"

I would like to be healed of the weaknesses that come with it, though.

Sometimes the anti-healing autism advocates remind me of pride. They don't want their conditions to be healed or treated, even if it causes deficit sometimes and can have an impact on some people psychologically.

Those are called co-morbid conditions. They ARE injuries, but they are on-top-of benign autism.

Fellow Aspie here, ASD/1, diagnosed when I was 50! also have ADHD. I balked when my mom asked me if I wanted prayer for healing from autism, and said no. But sometimes I do wonder. Mostly I pray for wisdom and discernment. I go to a Christian therapist and I can ask him about relationship/social things, so he's a great help too.

I am diagnosed with Autism as well and am level 2 in quite a few areas mixed in with some 1's. I don't want it healed either. Sometimes I have prayed for it to be managed and God has helped me with that at times. I can quite understand why a care giver with a level 3 child who is non verbal might seek out some healing though. However, I tend to think that God knows how to communicate with all of his children as they are. God could have healed my Autism, but for me it is like he has blessed it. I have been extremely sensory sensitive from early childhood and have other symptoms in childhood although I was not diagnosed till my adult life. It not without some drawbacks, but I am very content being me.
