  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Even if there is another attack, it might still have happened with Kerry.

There were several attacks while Clinton was president - the World Trade Center in '93, the USS Cole, the embassies in Africa - but nothing since 2001.

We're also already under attack, with 4,000 Americans being killed every day. Bush wants to restrict abortion; Kerry doesn't. Unless the terrorists are going to start killing 1.4 million a year, in terms of deaths alone, abortion's the more important issue. It's also more important because of the whole anti-life mentality it gets this country into. Abortion, contraception, divorce, and gay marriage are all related, and lead to a breakdown of the family and so many other moral problems, and not the way God wants us to live.

Exactly, and if this election said anything, it said that our society is sick and tired of it. The sanctity of life is going to see a huge upswing, IMNSHO, with these elections. The newest Senator of Oklahoma, Sen. Tom Coburn has said he wants to eliminate all abortions, and the new Senator of South Carolina (thank you Edwards, for stepping down) Sen. Jim DeMint has said basically the same thing. With the Senate and House both strongly in the hands of Republicans and the ousting of Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle (good riddance), as well as Sen. Arlen Specter in line for the Chair of the Senate Judicial Committee, we should see within the next four years, a strong push for morally conservative values in the Judicial Appointee's by President Bush. Roe v. Wade may see it's reversal yet!

This time it looks like Christians decided the election. I think Kerry underestimated the power of prayer and true Christians out there who took their faith seriously when they went to the polls. I know the break down in Ohio showed Bush won because of the Evangelical Christian vote and I am sure there were many Catholic votes included in that number too.

It’s time the liberals take notice; this nation is not as radical and liberal as they try to have us believe.

In the same line of thought as nyj, I think that the country's disdain for lack of morality and conservative morality at that was never more demonstrated then in the fact that the Republican party gained so many more in the House and the Senate and the fact that the President won with not only the Electoral Votes but also the biggest advantage in the Popular vote that we have had in a long time....

Sounds good, but I don't know about that, Tom. Arlen Specter was responsible for keeping Judge Robert Bork off of the bench in the 1980s. He was a strong constitutionalist that would have voted to overturn Roe v Wade, and Specter buried him:(

I don't trust Arlen Specter

Good point... and not good news.

Specter Not Good News For Judicial Committee

Well, we couldn't have expected to win by a complete landslide, could we? Hope is not lost however... read the article... there are ways around it, and given this great opportunity, I strongly hope the Republican Conference doesn't botch this.

One of the biggest effects the results of this election will produce is the possibility to appoint supreme court judges. This is where liberals advance their agenda and will hopefully, eventually not be successful. I also hope that the overwhelming rejection of homosexual marriage in the 11 states will serve to put the kabosh on any type of national court challenges. The people have spoken and they don't want same-sex marriage. Period.
