i found a grateful dead VHS at the thrift store yesterday. i haven't gotten to watch it all, but it's some kind of tv documentary on them... with concert footage, and interviews.

Who else loves the Dead ?

I would just like everyone to know that I do.

They go so good with Phish. I can remember a number of times last year that me and some of my college friends would be... uh... hanging out in the car...talking...ya talking... and listening... to the Dead and Phish. Good and interesting times!

There is a DVD from 1978, closing of the winterland theater, that is an excellent pick as well. It has great sound, a great set list and is well filmed as well.

My brother just gave me American Beauty. I have not listened to it yet, but look forward to it.

That is a great album, as is my favorite "Workingman's Dead"

The biography "A Long strange Trip" by Dennis Mcnally is also a great read for all those interested in the history of the Dead......

The re-releases of the studio albums all have extra tracks on them. Well worth the purchase price now.....

OR, have you ever heard of "plunderphonics"??? John Oswald's collaboration with Phil Lesh and the entire GD vault of shows to produce a Dark Star that spans 2 discs??

It is the best single "song" I think I've heard.

I have not, but I am going to have to check that out. Just got the Grateful Dawg DVD, with Garcia & Grisman, excellent. I love bluegrass music.

Yeah bluegrass is fantastic! Jerry was quite the banjo player too. I think that, at least in his early days, he preferred the banjo to the guitar.

Its getting late but tomorrow I'd like to write some more about that Dark Star. The album is called "Grayfolded" (cool title, sounds like "Grateful Dead" if you don't pronounce the "t" much.). If I could only keep one CD of my entire collection, like if I were stranded on a desert island... this would be the one I kept.

Just purchased the guide to trading Dead shows, Vols I & II, what a great pair....Every show is listed, along with usual quality of the recording....

Just obtained a great GD concert from 1989, called Downhill From Here, excellent quality. The version of Gimme Some Lovin' was 5-star....

I believe that Grisman recorded with a band called Earth Opera.. at least I am told this... I am wondering if Jerry helped out in any of that ... perhaps I am wrong, but maybe another avenue to look at..
