  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm old. I think I look older than I did last week.

Here's some recent incidences that corroborate this ugly truth:

1. My broker guessed me at 54. I'm but 52. :(

2. In the waiting room at the doctor's office, a middle-aged woman and man were talking about their grown kids and what pains they were and that they'd never raise kids today because it's even more hair-raising. The woman looked at me and asked: "Do you have lots of kids?"

LOTS of kids? Why didn't she just say: "Do you have kids?" What's with the LOTS? Do I look like I've been through the ringer several times? I never even had one kid. :(

3. Today at the convenience store, a middle-aged biker walked in and said hi to the clerk. "That's Isaac. Hayes," he said to me.

Now let's see . . . what century did Isaac Hayes live? :(

I might as well stop shopping in the junior department.

So, what is y'all's self-images? :D

Oh, it's very sad, isn't it Prom? I mean, gone are the days that folks thought we were younger than we were. Now they think we are older than we are. At least in my case.

I'm in the market for some knitting needles. Where can I get a good rocking chair? I'm going to heat up some milk. Back soon.

My wife and I have decided that we are not going to get old, just grow older.

When are we ever satisfied with the age we are? My daughter who is almost 23 is often told she looks 16. She doesn't like that. Her sister who is 30 wishes she looked 23.
I am often told that I look younger than I am, but I look at my sister who is 7 years older and I know what I will look like in a few years. I don't like that.:(

It seems like the years sneak up on you and suddenly whamo! You realize you are a part of the senior set. I somehow failed to recognize that it was coming until it was here.

I wonder if we are in an adjustment phase that will one day end and we will be like Macca and his wife who aren't getting old just getting older.

I rememember a song that said, "memories sweeten through the ages just like wine". That's what I want to do as soon as I stop feeling sorry for myself.

I know exactly what you guys are talking about. The mirror thing never ceases to be a shock, because when I picture myself in my mind, I look like I did 25 years ago. The constant aches and pains are one of the most difficult things for me to deal with, but hey, hinges get rusty, ya know?

Prom, I remember it "sneaking up" up on me too. In fact, it was as if other people noticed it, long before I did. Younger people, and I'm talking about young people with families, not teenagers, started responding to me like they would their mother.

I'm starting to get more comfortable in my skin (dry as it is, lol)in the last year or so. There are some freedoms that you begin to have at this age. Not having the pressure to be and look a certain way any more, I kinda like that. I feel more freedom to speak my mind and be who I am. Not worry so much about my appearance and whether or not I'm feminine enough. I just seem to have so much more confidence. But then, the Lord has done a lot in me too.

Some of it might be a generational thing, because my daughter (25 years old) seems to have a handle on a lot of things that never came to me until it was too late. I don't know, maybe she just has more wisdom than I did.

I find death much more of a reality now. I try to appreciate and enjoy each and every day. My relationship with my husband, most of the time is so comfortable. Maybe some people think "comfortable" is boring. But I love comfortable. No one knows me like he does. No one loves me like he does. It took us many years to get there, but I am so glad we made the journey together.

You know what, when I think about it, there's a lot of things I like about being this age.

Hey, we're GOLDEN Eagles, remember? Gold is precious, never loses it's value, never goes out of style, is soft enough it can be changed and reshaped, and never loses it's beauty.;)

In some ways that's not so bad if they really liked their mother. :)

Yes, Macca I agree that not all men fit the stereotypes. We tend to do this with people and expect certain character and behavior that may not be fair.
Thanks for reminding us. :)

All in all I think guys are great and wish I had more of them in my circle of friends. :)

That too is a generalisation.
Macca.

I apologize for that statement, Macca. You are absolutely right, it is a generalization, and therefore, unfair. It was a little joke, but sometimes little jokes can be hurtful. Again I'm sorry, I will try to be more careful about my comments regarding men.

Somedays I feel almost my age - 68 which believe me is younger than 65 felt. :p

And somedays after a nice walk by the lake and a prayer time I feel like my heart wants to sing.

But when I look in the mirror and say, "Who is that woman?" And the answer is, "My mother." Ha. I know it is true. I AM getting old...:sigh: but it's not so bad, really, she looked pretty good at MY age...:D

Thank you ladies. I was not offended, just wanted to get a reaction.
Macca.
