  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have problems with old testiment scripture as well

Numbers chapter 15 verses 32-36

32. And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath day.

33. And they that found him gathering sticks brought him unto Moses and Aaron, and unto all the congregation.

34. And they put him in ward, because it was not declared what should be done to him.

35. And the Lord said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp.

36. And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the Lord commanded Moses.

I believe there are many things wrong with this passage.

Now I read what was said about the previous passages. God had to protect Isreal. However this wasn't someone trying to convert anyone's religion. They came across a man gathering sticks on the sabbath, and stoned him to death for doing so.
That is barbaric.

Also, weren't the Isrealites doing work on the sabbath by taking the man and arresting him? I'm sure they did a lot more work capturing him than this man did while gathering sticks.

And this is the exact opposite of what Jesus taught. Jesus taught that Man was made for the Sabbath, yet this man was killed for collecting sticks.

I've heard people say that this man was blatantly defying God, and that he was trying to be some kind of rebel. But the bible says they FOUND him in the wilderness. I assume he wasn't one of them and therefore didn't know God's law.

And if this doesn't constitute murder, then what does?
