We didn't have an Atari (all the 'cool' kids did ;)) but I LOVED arcade games when I was little.

Galaga
Centipede - that stupid roller ball controller used to pinch my hand, though
Pac-Man
Blue Print - obscure, I think, but great
Frogger
Alpine Ski
Donkey Kong

Then we got NES. These were my faves.

Excite Bike
Mario
Tetris
Top Gun

Love, Heather

I'm surprised no one mentioned the old classic, Pirates! That game rocked - gave you the free roaming ability to practically do what you wanted. Trade, missions, "helping" merchants by transporting their goods. :D

There's others:

King's Quest series
Quest for Glory
Police Quest (father to Swat3 for you youngins :D)

I never played Pirates! GOLD! as my system at the time couldn't run it. Plus I was having fun playing games on the GameBoy. From what I've read, they're going to be releasing a new version of it sometime in 2004. It'll be called "Sid Mier's PIRATES!" However I haven't seen and screens of it, but hopefully it'll be just as fun as it's predecessors.

Is it a series? When I played it I didn't really know much about it.

No, it wasn't a series. Just single releases of the game. AFAIK, all Gold was, was the original Pirates! with a facelift. Pretty much all "Sid Meiers' Pirates!" is going to be, 'cept I can't be for sure as they're not posting any screens. If you're looking for a Pirates! style of game, you should check out Port Royall. It's very similar to Pirates! with cities and basically allows you to do the same type of thing. There's some differences between the two, like with PR you can't have multiple wives like you could with Pirates! Though if you do chose to get "married" in PR, she'll nag you about being gone all the time... Sort of a like a real wife. :D

If don't already have it, I'd recommend getting it. It's about $20-30.00 (US) at EB and it's well worth the $$$ too, IMHO.

Civilization 2 is still good. I find it more balanced than Civ 3.

Um, Police Quest and King's Quest (Darwin knows what time it is) and Space Quest games were awesome. Space Quest 5 was the funniest game... except for Enter the Matrix. Er, that wasn't supposed to be funny? They were just bugs? Hmm.

Bubble Bobble, Contra, Gradius III, Punch Out, Metal Gear and Double Dragon are games that I pull out of the basment once in a while.
