  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

“Based on an examination of the graduate teaching assistant’s prior grading standards and patterns, as well as the graduate teaching assistant’s own statements related to this matter, it was determined that the graduate teaching assistant was arbitrary in the grading of this specific paper," the state's flagship school said in a Monday evening statement. "The graduate teaching assistant will no longer have instructional duties at the University."

He can find a job elsewhere!

I hope so. Teaching assistantships are a major way that graduate students fund their education; they generally come with a tuition waiver and a stipend for the student to live on, in exchange for work of teaching or grading in university classes. I hope the university finds some way to provide alternative funding for the student until all the lawsuits settle out.

Really? The teaching assistant was clear abusing their position and has as a result, damaged the reputation of the University as a whole. This person deserves no support whatsoever as they have brought this on themselves. They are not a victim of unjust prejudice.

The obvious solution is for the teaching assistants at the University of Oklahoma to give every assignment that crosses their desk an "A" and if it refers to the Bible an "A+" - students and parents are not in the habit of complaining that their grades are too high!

The reputation of Oklahoma's flagship school for scholarship and academic excellence will be seriously eroded and take years to recover, but that's the price any university should expect to pay when it fails to support its own graduate teaching assistants - when they attempt to maintain high standards!

If the Bible is now presumed to be the final authority in virtually all subject areas why would any institution of higher learning in Oklahoma go to the time and expense of maintaining a university library?

Given that America is a diverse nation with many different faiths, other religions will go to the courts to ensure that universities extend to them the same concessions that conservative Christians have claimed for themselves - Holy Book(s) from all faiths can now be cited as the final authority in any number of subject areas!

  • Christianity: The Holy Bible (Old & New Testaments)
  • .
  • Islam: The Quran (Koran)
  • .
  • Judaism: The Tanakh (Hebrew Bible) and the Talmud.

  • Hinduism: The Vedas, Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita, Puranas, and Epics (Ramayana, Mahabharata)

  • .Buddhism: The Tripitaka (Pali Canon).

  • Sikhism: The Guru Granth Sahib.

  • Taoism (Daoism): The Tao Te Ching.

Confucianism: The Four Books & Five Classics (e.g., Analects, I Ching).

    Jainism: The Agamas.

Shinto: The Kojiki & Nihon Shoki.

    Zoroastrianism: The Avesta (Zend Avesta).

    Baha'i Faith: The Kitáb-i-Aqdas.
