  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Okay, I'll play

Is kevlite the low calorie version of kev??

yep :) Actually, my last name is Leichtman (pronounced light man, ya know, weird Jewish spelling) so it just fits! And I'm short and all, so it's like I'm a mini-person!

Dove you seem to always have fun and interesting questions!

1. What's with the "2020" portion of your username? (Seeing as we're already going that route :D )

There's no cool story behind that... back in the day when I made that my AIM screen name, it just put the 2020 after it because kevlite by itself was taken :(

2. What brought you to CF? Was it peer pressure? Tell me it was peer pressure. :lost:

Google search, haha... I don't know I was bored one day and I wanted to kick up some conversation online, and I thought, what better to talk about then Jesus, so I searched for Christian forums and low and behold... Ironically I had signed up for this site like a year ago and posted a couple things and never came back until now for some reason...

3. Are you frugal or are you a spender?

On most things I'm frugal, but I'm a spender on things that are important to me. For example, I still wear clothes from high school, and even a couple really old shirts from middle school haha because I hate spending money on new clothes. But on the other hand, if a new book comes out that I want to read, I'll fork up the dough for the hardcover instead of waiting for paperback!

4. What is one thing you want to accomplish by the end of the year - or better yet, this summer?

Well I'm moving from dayton Ohio to Cary, NC. I'm sure it's going to be a lot different living there so my goal is to get moved in, find a job, and get settled down there. After that, I want to get into grad school for an education degree, but that's probably a year away :)

5. Do you go against society like the pigeon in your avatar? :p

Not really, but I do go against pop culture. I really hate a lot of the things I see on tv, advertisements, the internet, etc. and those things I try to go against, even though it feels like an uphill climb...

6. What is the most important thing to you?

Loving God. It's almost overwhelming how much He loves me, especially considering how much I don't deserve it, even compared to the average person. The things He's done in my life just have me so amazed and the most important thing to me is to show God that I really am appreciative, that I don't want to take His gift of grace for granted, but I want to do good works and submit to Him in love. If, by the end of my life, I could have shown God even a quarter of an ounce of the love He's shown me, I'll feel like I accomplished everything I wanted to in life :)

How did you become a Christian?

I'll try to give a nice short version... For all of my life, I had actively ignored all issues about God. Even though I had some very dedicated Christians, Jews, and Atheists that were all very close friends to me, who would all discuss those issues somewhat often, I would shut it out completely. When I went to college, I started using marijuana heavily (more than 1 time a day) so it became easier to ignore these things and just not care...

Well, about 4 years ago, the one good relationship I ever had with a woman blew up and I was pretty devastated. I was completely lost and all I knew was that my lifestyle obviously wasn't working. I ended up living with my best friend from like elementary school, we've always been really close, and he is a Christian. He kept trying to talk to me about God and some of the issues in my life as they relate to the Bible. I had always believed there was a God but I never cared to know more than that until then. At his constant urging, I finally bought a Bible and decided to read through it. I didn't allow him to talk to me at all about religion though, I said that I would do my own research and decide for myself, and thankfully he was patient.

Then, I read through the Old Testament (skipping some parts here and there, but getting through most of it, especially the books of law I spent a lot of time on). At that point, I was interested but I had doubts. I looked up all sorts of atheist things, and I looked at creation vs. evolution, and all sorts of things like that. Once I made peace with the possibility of the world being created by God as it was said in the Bible, I moved on to the New Testament. As I read through it, I also read lots of articles by Rabbis on why Jews don't believe in Jesus, because at that point I was okay with Judiasm but wasn't sure about Christ yet.

Eventually, I made peace with the articles by the Rabbis, thinking them to be in the wrong, and by the time I had got through the book of Romans I was a believer! Man was it exciting!!! I was just all alone in my room and I never felt more surrounded by love and peace then at that moment. Although getting baptized was pretty close :)

There was more that went into it then that but this was pretty much the idea!

Why are you moving to NC?

Well, I started off wanting to move to Florida, because I have some family there and it wouldn't have been too bad to adjust. But when I visited those areas, I really didn't like them and wasn't really interested. On top of that, the colleges there didn't have the type of graduate programs I'm looking for...

I went on a road trip with some friends through NC/SC a while ago and while driving through NC I just fell in love with it, I was immediately drawn to want to live there. Then I checked out the colleges in the Raleigh area and they all have the exact program I want to get in to. So I'm just going for it!

Well, I wanted to pursue English/Creative writing because my original goal was to teach college english. My GPA is a bit too low at this point to get into grad school for that. So now I'm trying to go for a masters in education to teach high school english. Some colleges, like NCSU, have specific programs for people like me pursuing high school teaching with a B.A. in something other than education (mine was english). So that's where I am right now, hopefully I'll be able to move up to college level eventually but I think teaching high school will be a blast too!

Nothing special recently. I've worked at a chili place, a panera bread, stuff like that, nothing serious. I've been out of work for a little while though since I was just focusing on graduating, and now am focusing on moving. And yeah you're right, I've heard there's a lot of opportunity for high school teachers all over NC, and competition seems really tough for college professors anywhere. As long as I'm teaching something, somewhere, at some point in my life, I'll be happy. I definitely feel like teaching is my calling.

Have you ever taught Sunday School?

Nope, I've only been Christian for a little over a year. Although a funny story, my best friend taught a PSR class for 4th graders and once he brought me in and told the whole class how I was Jewish. Then he made them all throw pens at me! It's was really funny (he usually made the class throw pens at him for giggles so it wasn't like bad).

Favorite color and why?

Blue, for sure. 2 of my most favorite things to look at, the sky, and the ocean, are blue. I love blue eyes too.

As a Jewish man, are there some Jewish customs you hold to?

I usually celebrate Hannukah every year, even if I have to do it by myself. I celebrate passover and rosh hashana and yom kippur with my family typically, as long as I can make it to Cleveland for those events, although I don't really observe the things about it, like I don't fast or say any of the Jewish prayers, since I don't know hebrew, etc. I also love love love eating a nice kosher meal. My gramma makes the best matza ball soup ever and that's probably my favorite dish in the whole world!

What is your favorite summertime activity?

Cabrewing... My friends and I will take a cooler full of food/snacks and a cooler full of beers (I don't drink to get drunk but I love a cold beer or 2 or 3 on a hot day), and we'll go on a river on canoes and just lounge and float along. Usually the places we go have courses that take about 4-5 hours so we just relax on the river, do funny stuff, drink, eat, and then when we get home we'll play cornhole and when it gets too dark out, we'll get out guitar hero. That's pretty much the perfect day for me in the summer! I'm actually about to go camping this weekend and we're going to cabrew there so I'm really pumped!

Which is more important: to be able to laugh at one's own mistakes or to never laugh at another's?

Gosh that's a tough question for me. I am the opposite on both ways (for better or worse). I have a hard time lightening up on myself and laughing at my mistakes, I take myself way too seriously. On the other hand, I always try to make other people's mistakes into a more casual, laughing matter, because I don't want my friends to beat themselves up over mistakes, I want to cheer them up about it. So I guess, I don't know what would be more important, but for me, I need work on both ends of that.

Mmm.. I'd love to try some Matza ball soup. :)

That's one of the perks of dating me, you would get 1st class kosher Jewish meals on every holiday!

What is your favorite song to do on Guitar Hero?

"Beyond Beautiful" by Aerosmith... Fun song to play, easy enough for me to beat, I love the sound of the chorus part, and thinking about girls that are beyond beautiful makes me smile :)

Here is a more serious question:

(If it is too personal, you don't have to answer, ok? :) )

Would it be okay for you to marry a woman who was not Jewish? Or would your family be concerned?

What level are you up to in Guitar Hero?

Are you an outdoorsy person moreso than a city dweller?

What is the best characteristic of human beings? What is the worst?

(If it is too personal, you don't have to answer, ok? :) )

No question is too personal to me (except like what's my bank account number). I am willing to talk freely about any aspect of my life at any point in time, no worries :)

Would it be okay for you to marry a woman who was not Jewish? Or would your family be concerned?

I've already had fights with my parents about it. I have told them that I want to be married by a priest or pastor in a church, and that the only kind of woman I want to marry is a Christian. They had fits about it, they don't necessarily want me to marry a Jewish woman (although they'd prefer it), I think what they want is for me not to marry a Christian woman, and ultimately, to not be a Christian. If/when I marry a Christian woman, it's going to be very very tense for my whole extended family. I could probably talk for hours about my family and I and religion, but I'll leave it to say that one of my aunt's actually burst into tears (not the good kind of tears) when I told her I brought Jesus into my life, and I'm forbidden by my family to tell my grandma that I'm Christian.

What level are you up to in Guitar Hero?

I'm up to expert, but I can't beat all the songs. We have all the discs, so the harder ones, like 3 and metallica, beat me up pretty bad.

Are you an outdoorsy person moreso than a city dweller?

I'll say that I'm comfortable fairly in any environment. I prefer suburbs the best though... Cities kind of intimidate me. I have no problem going out and about in the big cities but the big buildings kind of make me short on breath for some reason. Like I might have a panic attack if I stare at the tallest buildings, or actually went up them, I don't know haha. I guess my heart is more in the suburbs.

What is the best characteristic of human beings? What is the worst?

Sorry if this gets cliche, but I think the best characteristic is love and the worst is hate. There are plenty of other things that are good or bad, but love and hate bring the most possible good or bad in something. Other characteristics kind of fade in comparison to love/hate.
