  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A few minutes of reading and I already have a question. Who is surprised by this?

15. We believe that Christian marriage is intended by God to be the union of one man and one woman for life, and that Christians shall marry only in the Lord.

Will someone be kind enough to please explain to me what the statement in red means?

Sure.

The "in the Lord" phrase with respect to marriage is a Pauline concept found in 1Co 7:39, "A wife is bound as long as her husband lives. But if the husband dies, she is free to marry anyone she wishes, only in the Lord" (NRS).

The NIV translates 1Co 7:39, "A woman is bound to her husband as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is free to marry anyone she wishes, but he must belong to the Lord."

Basically, the idea is to not go off on your own apart from God in the matter of marriage. Marry only a Christian. Enter a marriage and do all in your power to maintain it such where God is at the center.
