  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Does that mean you are studying to be a teacher, or taking a license exam or both.

What age group
Studying to be a teacher. I just have to student teach and then I graduate :) I'll be certified to teach K-8th.

I've done a spot of plein air painting in London. My first project was St Martin-in-the-Field - eh could have been better. Then I went to Southbank and painted the Thames from the Blackfriars end (facing Charing Cross) and actually did quite well. I thinking loosening up the brushwork helped massively. I painted a bit too tight earlier on in the day and I wasn't lowering my gaze or stepping back enough.

I'd love to see your paintings. Care to share?

Good luck in your student teaching. is that done with a teacher, or are you given a class by yourself.

I never student taught, i just came off the street (actually from another art job) to the classroom, kind of learned on the job training.

Heeeeey my peeps :)

It's been a while since I posted.

If you respond, you gotta do two things:

1) Tell me something that has happened in your life recently.
2) Quote one of your favorite movie/shows.

Good to be back :D

Obligatory imposter syndrome comment: "I've only been painting for about a year."

But two of my most recent:

And an older one, which I happen to still like:

Make that, bless his brains.

“A man paints with his brains, not with his hands.”, Michaelangelo

I expected someone is going to say that. I was giving a blessing from the scripture. Hands cover it all.

 Thanks for sharing.

May God bless your hands.

Indeed. I pray that He does. Because we all know that the devil will make work for idle ones.

Yeah, I think a brain is critical for translating colour theory and selecting the correct values. So I understand exactly where Michaelangelo was coming from. Obviously my hands will mix the colours, but I only use the primaries, burnt umber and white. So a lot of theory is involved.

And for disclosure, my palette after that last painting I posted was a MESS. It's one of those times when owning a few extra tubes is helpful.

You have quite the talent!

Trying to learn how to paint.

To be honest I feel like 85 to 90% of it is understanding colour theory. If you can take decent photographs and understand what you're seeing, then that's half the battle won already.

And I think maintaining a bit of abstraction in your brushwork helps as well. I'm not necessarily at a high level yet, but I'm starting to figure out what works. Everyone likes brushy texture in a painting.

Wonderful work. You're really coming along! :cheer:

Not the best images though, I need to upgrade my camera.

How do you like catan? My daughter mentioned it in the past.

Its an ok game. I typically like games with less random chance in them, but its a very good gateway game to get people in to the hobby. I'm also a huge fan of dominion

This may be of help, it is a little involved but henry hensche was a master colorist.
