  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hello:wave:

I have been asked to do a short offering talk on Friday to some Chinese Christians.

Can anyone give me a few good scriptures/ thoughts to bring out?

I have already thought of 'God loves a cheerful giver' from Galatians, not reluctantly or under compulsion.

Any ideas gratefully received:)

Another good scripture:

10 Give generously to him and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the LORD your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to. 11 There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your brothers and toward the poor and needy in your land.
(Deuter 15)

What is your relationship with these Chinese Christians and where is the money they are giving going to be going?

I'm the treasurer of their fellowship, I guess it will go where it's needed. Evangelism and the needy primarily.

Brother Lismore.....I can't think of anyone better at explaining what giving is all about according to the Bible than Pastor Prince.....if you have the time, here is a lovely teaching on giving, because we are blessed already by Jesus! Enjoy!

The passages in the scripture are either in the Old Testament or to do with giving money to the Temple. "Giving to God" was very clear and was to do with the Torah. One weakness I see on the church's teaching about giving as that they assume that "Giving to God" (="Giving to the Temple as laid out in the Torah" in the OT) is the same as "Giving to the Church". I'd like to see that assumption addressed a lot more. Perhaps you could talk about how, as the treasurer, you realise that you don't own the money but your job is to manage God's money. You could also look at what the money will be used for and explain why you think that's God's will.

A few things come to mind, but they are not so much from the Bible. In this world, we invest to receive a return. Where there is persecution, there is also a spiritual return. This happens with endurance and real faith being made. We will see persecution in America and through-out the world. Some Christians around the world will invest back into our own nation in this impossible future getting back return on their investment. Do the right thing and invest where there is a definite spiritual return for God's will. The growth of Christianity is people and not our buildings or our routine repeating religious exercises. It is standing up for Christ, in our entire living, especially in hostile areas, like that of the Chinese. I think the idea of these Chinese's visit is to bless us not us them. Listen to them and be bless.

Lismore;

You would be very hard pressed to find anything better than 2 Corinthians 9!

Blessings,
