Hey,

So , I am a member of the LCMS and I have been doing some research on occupations within the church for women. For the most part I've only found parish nurse and deaconess. I was wondering if anyone on here had any info on how exactly one goes about becoming a deaconess and if it's a position generally held as a sole job or if it's more of a role women tend to take in addition to another job.

God bless,
Cassie

If I recall correctly, Pastor mentioned something a couple months ago to the effect that out of the women who graduated from the Deaconess program at one seminary in a recent year, only two received a call from a church. I don't know if I am remembering correctly, but that is what I think he said.

The article mentions that there are 100 Deaconesses in total serving churches at present, which would leave me to believe the number above is probably correct, since those 100 would represent all the LCMS Deaconesses from any seminary who have received calls to churches over a span of years.
