• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

People.....

I can't live. Life is passing me by. I can't praise or worship God, I can't enjoy my college life, I can't concentrate on anything. This OCD is taking over my life. I wish I could talk with somebody but I don't know how to. I'm back on my meds but it doesn't seem to be helping. I'm keeping my faith, but if anyone reading this has suffered from OCD, he/she can testify to the fact that it's as if you totally lose control of your mind. I want to enjoy my life. I don't want to wake up every day sound only to lose it in an hour and always look over my shoulder and obsess over minute things. I don't know what to do................ :prayer:

I struggle with that too, and quite honestly I'm not totally over it. A couple things I feel like I have learned though.

Spend time with people you love and doing some of the things that you really enjoy.

When I really enjoy what I'm doing I don't get trapped as easily, or if I can look forward to something sometimes it helps some.

When you start to feel trapped, just pray through it and if you need to seek the fellowship of others. That's what we're here for.

No one here makes it on thier own, and if they do, I can guarantee they're either miserable or bitter or both.

Amen to that!! We cannot make it totally on our own, and I agree that it does cause much misreableness if you try to handle a problem that is too big for you by yourself. I have tried, and it just drags you down. You need the moral support of people. There may be websites, boards like this one that is about people who suffer from OCD, these boards can be very helpful, but be careful also. I know I found a board that has people who suffer from the same thing I do, and it is an immense help. There is help out there!! I know it can get really hard sometimes, keep relying on God and seek out people that you can talk to with similar troubles. :)

Hello,
I also suffer from OCD and I have it pretty bad. Trust me, I definitely know what you are going through. My mind is cnstantly scaring me and making me think thnigs are going to happen that won't happen.
Feel free to PM me if you want to. I would be happy to talk to you. I am taking medicine and it is helping me, but in a way, it makes everything even scarier.
Dear Jesus,
Please bring some peace to my friend here who is suffering from OCD. Gice them. some of the small moments of peace I have been feeling, if that would help. Please help. Amen.

Prayer and love,
Jacob

I have OCD too. I used to have to spend hours repeating a prayer to God every morning and evening, if it didn't sound "just right" I'd have to repeat it over and over until it sounded "right". Eventually I got so sick of it I decided to challenge the OCD, I just said the Lords prayer (as it's much shorter compared to my OCD-induced prayer) and I said it once then left it. It was very uncomfortable though, I kept having this little nagging feeling at the back of my mind trying to get me to repeat the prayer. I have found that my OCD has been much milder ever since I challenged it. Although it hasn't completely gone I wouldn't consider it much of a problem anymore. My depression and SAD are my major problems.

You should ask you doctor to set you up with a cognative-behavioual therapist as it's supposed to be very helpful for OCD.

Oh my gosh! This is so like me. I have moderate OCD and its really hard to be a ?Christian. When your not absolutely perfect you tend to want to give up. Just stay strong God is a forgiving God and no one is perfect. Pray about this and I recommend keeping a diary. It helps.

Can someone please explain OCD,in brief and give some examples..I think I may have a milder form of it.
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder. The essential features of OCD are recurrent obsessions (thoughts) that create an awareness of alarm or threat

I've always thought that OCD was a way to try and control anxiety on your own, by manipulating outside events or things in order to make it seem like there is no chaos. Just remember the verse

"PERFECT LOVE CASTS OUT ALL FEAR"

that's the best verse for people with this disorder. I had this when i was really young.
