  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

..just be careful with humor that it isn't scornful nor mocking~there are some scriptures that deal with this ;)

[mea culpa]

True, but I am curious, for those of who believe this is wrong or disrespectful, how does guessing at Obama's "joke" cabinet disrespect Obama?

The other side I suppose~~on a somewhat similar note & slight derail: one thing to consider that was brought up at another site: Often conservatives were angered and frustrated (and rightfully so) at the disrespect the (especially) media would give to Pres. Bush by only referring to him as "Bush" or "Mr. Bush" or even "W"...it would be a good time to "do unto others" with the new president...one talkshow guy calls him "B.O." since, he says, the media liked to use W..

Net talk is abbreviated as much as possible, so I don't think around here the lack of titles is so much disrespect as convenience:holy:

that is a valid question, well for the past 8 years i have heard jokes about Bush calling him the dumbest man on earth, that he looks like a chimp and all kinds of horrible stuff, worst part is a lot of people think there jokes were true... I mean he went to Yale for crying out loud.
I can take a joke, I would love to hear some good jokes about who McCain would have put in his cabinet "sorry sir, Tesla can not be secretary of energy... um he passed away" (oh come on McCain is super old jokes are kinda funny)
well people voted for Obama for change, well he should put Dr.Gene Ray as secretary of Education, he can teach the kiddies about the Timecube, is that enough change for you?

How about ...
Cindy McCain for HUD - she has the houses already.
:)

I called Bush W all the time. I also called him Shrub (my own affectionate nickname from high school) and I had a picture of him making a face side by side with a picture of Curious George. My boss, an avowed Republican, loved it.

You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot help small men by tearing down big men. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot lift the wage-earner by pulling down the wage-payer. You cannot help the poor man by destroying the rich. You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred. You cannot establish security on borrowed money. You cannot build character and courage by taking away men's initiative and independence. You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves. -- William Boetcker

A bit off topic, though not entirely because that quote is clearly in response to the socialism that is about to come through Obama.

I voted all republicans and voted against all tax increases on the ballot, so do not misunderstand.

But here is a question.

How is it "fair" for CEOs and brokers to make millions of dollars per year while the people who actually make the goods and services, who actually have the skill sets that make the company what it is, must get by on peanuts, or else constantly worry about losing their job because the boss loves to fire them and hire someone else willing to work cheaper?

How is it "fair" that the peopel who provide food, clothing and shelter and in general are the ones who make the country work, they are those who make average or below average income, while the joker who does little more than sign his name to a few pieces of paper once in a while is making more money than half his employees combined?
