I used to not like Obama because of his Muslim heritage. Then I learned more about him and learned he is a Christian and i heard him speak. He speaks intelligently, brilliantly, and has great ideas. He has a plan to help America. We need change or else our country will be ruined if we have more of Bush's policies. There is always a danger, whether we pick Obama or McCain, that they will abuse the power once they are in office. It is a risk you have to take, you can't predict which of the canditates will actually be the best president, who will actually keep his promises.

considering, though, that McCain already has a history of corruption, abusing his power, and is running his campaign strategy and policy based entirely on Bush/Rove politics, we can know for certain that McCain would not keep his promises and would abuse his power.

It don't see how McCain can possibly show well in any debate. But I do think that Biden and Palin will get into some good fireworks. He just has to be careful not to overstep, because people won't like him in her face. Should be interesting.

Well it won't be a real debate. I even understand the Republicans have pressured the organizers into changing the rules in the V.P. debate to make it less obvious that Palin is ignorant about almost anything relevant - except what goes on in the outback of the Great White North. :D

If it were a true debate they would have to carry McCain and Palin out on stretchers afterwards. I.e., a real debate would have the candidates asking each other questions, each question limited to one minute and the answer to two minutes, with a moderator only job just to keep everyone in line with the rules.

If they did that it would become apparently in a hurry that McCain had nothing to offer and that Obama was his intellectual superior like an adult is to a child. At some point a frustrated McCain would begin cursing like (the sailor he is) or would take a swing at Obama - or both – and after Obama, in sheer self-defense, kicked McCain's a** on national TV in front of tens of millions, the race would be over.

In the V.P. debate, Biden would demonstrate that he actually knows stuff and could pass the Turing test - and Plain would probably at some point run off the stage in tears, after the audience began laughing uproariously at her for repeating each of her eight memorized talking points ten times each with absolutely no original thoughts on offer. From then on Biden would have to be on the alert to avoid being shot in the back by the kind of gun that is used on big game animals. :D

i dont want to be judgmental but i have to question anyones faith that is willing to following this guy, oboma is evil! if you can support a guy that is not just saying that killing babies is alright but that even if the baby is born and you want it aborted thats alright too that is Murder! if you can support that, or him want to cut all contact with God's land Israel. and make this country with the right to think for its self..this guy is going to become like another Hitler; making "schools" to teaching anyone who disagrees with the government if they don't agree he will have them killed basically contractions camps. would you want a Muslim a guy, that probably did help some of those tartest to be the president of America! this breaks my heart that someone can stand up for this evil man! i Urge you to rethink about your choice here... Would God really be pleased with this guy as our president. what this guy is going to do to America scares me! i am praying against this evilness... i saw on this form how mccain could be the Antichrist, i don't know if this is the Anti Christ.... but he sure isnt good.. he is Evil! i will pray against this evil and pray that God Puts the right man in charge... and will trust in God alone!:prayer: -scared

Seriebeth, you have been listening to right-wing fear mongering, lies, and rumors. And please note that this thread is for Obama support. You are welcome to fellowship, but not to debate this, imo.

I have seen many elections and heard and read many opinions about this or that person or thing being a sign of the end. But it is not yet. Have you been brought before the courts for Jesus' sake? That must happen first.

Please don't be scared. None of the candidates are anti-christ. Not only that, but Christians are not going to worship the beast or any anti-christ. Won't happen. Look up, rejoice, your redemption draws closer than it was yesterday.

Contractions camps?
I remember my days at contractions camp, it was scary. Any time you said a word that could be contracted uncontracted, you got slapped.

Officer: Read this card.
Me: You are not going to hurt...
Officer: *slap*
Me: Uh, I mean, you're not going to hurt...
Officer: *slap*
Me: *crying*
You aren't going to hurt...
Officer:
*slap*

It was at that point that I realized I was trapped in one of those situations that I might never escape, but the officer eventually stopped after his hand grew tired. Over the course of several months I learned to use contractions whenever possible. Madam became ma'am, forecastle became fo'c'sle. I never said cannot or do not, it was always can't and don't. I learned to live a new way of life that I never thought possible and although I slip every now and then, contraction camp changed me for the better.

You have learned about nouns, verbs, and adjectives. At contraction camp, they teach to confront them and face the truth. You know how to say 200 words a minute. Contraction camp will teach how to speak 600. You must journey inwards, it's inside you, there is no turning back, this is contraction camp. Your training is nothing. The will is everything. If you make yourself more than just a man or woman, if you devote yourself to an ideal, you become something else entirely. Are you ready for that?

Why has no one addressed this issue with Obama..

From Audacity of Hope:'I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.'
Hey, go make your own smear thread if you please, this is an Obama support thread and the quote you cite, it seems rather racist to not stand with Muslims if the political wind takes an ugly shift. 99% of Muslims have done nothing wrong and have done nothing to you. But as I said, go to another thread if you wish to post that garbage.

Go Obama!

If that is Obama's thinking.. then it is not a smear and you should embrace it and support it. I asked why it has not been addressed. If you truly believe that it would seem racist to not stand with the Muslims if the political wind take an ugly shift then be proud of that fact. Not affronted that it is brought up.

I am proud of that fact and the fact that someone brings it up is just rather ignorant and bigoted. See with me, I don't cower into a corner because I call someone out on their bigotry, I have absolutely no problem being proud of standing with others that are a different race, gender, creed, religion, or sexual orientation. And when others see a problem with that, I will pursue that hateful person to no end. So one should expect to be confronted when attempting to besmirch the character of a man that refuses to show hatred toward a group. I mean hatred toward a group is just plain ridiculous.

I've met Christians I've loved and Christians I've disliked. I've met atheists I've loved and atheists I've disliked. I've met Muslims I've loved and Muslims I've disliked. I've met Jewish people I've loved and Jewih people I've like. I've met black people I've loved and black people I've disliked. I've met white people I've loved and white people I've disliked. I've met Hispanic I've loved and Hispanic people I've disliked. Need I go on? To have a problem with a man because he stands with a group of people without judging them, says more about the person that sees this as a problem than the man that stands with that group. I believe such people should be ashamed of themselves and need to do some of their own soul searching so they can understand the bigotry and prejudices within themselves.

Why the agressive behavior when the issue is policy and the political position to take in such situations. It is an american position to be neutral and a mediator of world politics. It is also an american position to defend the rights of all people. To have Obama state that if given a political situation he would choose to drop the american position and take on the muslim approach speaks volumes.

It is not the American position to show hatred toward a group because they happen to follow a particular religion. Muslims in America are just as American as any other relgious group in America and it speaks volumes of anyone who speaks differently. During WWI, German Americans were attacked. During WWII, German and Japanese Americans were attacked. Many times in the history of this country, certain ethnic groups are attacked for merely looking the part. Obama and people like me will not join that mob. When our Muslim brothers and sisters are attacked, we stand with them. They are American and/or do not hate America, so when you curse them, you curse me. When you slap them, you slap me. When you imprison them, you imprison me. It speaks volumes of the character of Americans who feel otherwise... and don't even get me started on Christians.

True.. but that isn't the issue.. The issue is policies and politics of how the policies are handled. Muslims as a faith in not the issue... muslim politics in american policies is.

How about the fact that what you quoted is not even an accurate quote?

From The Audacity of Hope:
"Of course, not all my conversations in immigrant communities follow this easy pattern. In the wake of 9/11, my meetings with Arab and Pakistani Americans, for example, have a more urgent quality, for the stories of detentions and FBI questioning and hard stares from neighbors have shaken their sense of security and belonging. They have been reminded that the history of immigration in this country has a dark underbelly; they need specific assurances that their citizenship really means something, that America has learned the right lessons from the Japanese internments during World War II, and that I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction."
