Lev 19:32" 'Rise in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly and revere your God. I am the Lord.

YouTube - Obama to Jane Sturm: Hey, take a pill

In that video, Obama says (regarding "end of life care") "we as a culture and as a society starting to make better decisions within our own families and for ourselves..."

He ends by saying that the elderly may have to just take a pain killer.

Imagine that! How outrageous is that?

When he says "take the pain killer", is he seriously suggesting that the elderly live on a pain killer until death instead of getting needed surgery?

He said, "....maybe you're better off not having the surgery but taking the pain killer".

Now, since he is discussing end of life care, when he suggests giving the elderly "the" pain killer, is he talking about Euthanasia/doctor-assisted suicide/overdose of morphine?

God help us all!

If its a choice between a 91 year old man with rampant cancer, or a 30 year old man with 2 children and lung cancer and you only have enough money to pay for one operation?

Who gets it?

The 91 one year old man, who has lived a long life

Or the 30 year old man who will leave behind a widow, 2 children and with no means of support

IT'S A FALSE CHOICE! There is no shortage of doctors who will help people....no shortage of medicines...no shortage of anything in the health care field.

The government needs to STAY OUT of our lives. They want to take over the health care field and then tell people that there's not enough to go around. It's absurd!

It may shock you to know, that more often than not, the treatement of prostate cancer in elderly men is focused on palliative management as opposed to active treatement.

The active treatment for prostate cancer is brutal, and to put an elderly man through that with the reality that treatment may not actually add any time to his life. So the medical profession focuses on treatement that will manage the cancer and prevent it from spreading.

Why do you persist in making the worst POSSIBLE interpretation of President Obama's words? How on earth do his statements above even LIMIT health care for the elderly?

Ok, maybe My hearing is bad, but where does Obama say "Death to the Elderly" Exactly ?

He said, "....maybe you're better off not having the surgery but taking the pain killer".

My 93 year old Grandmother who lives alone, takes care of herself, mows her lawn, gardens, shops and is like a woman 20 years younger...if she should fall and break a hip, Obama (the government) would tell her, "sorry, you are 93 years old, you can't have surgery, your only option is a pain killer for that broken hip until you die".

You don't see a problem with that? How would you like to be told, "you're too old for health care so take a pill until that broken hip kills you"????

This is EVIL!

But the thing is, it doesn't stop with the elderly...it goes for the disabled and others as well. If you fall and are permanently disabled, you are UNWORTHY of health care.

I've heard of people in the UK that are 90 years odd and having hip replacements.. that in my opinion is a total waist of money, and doctor's time. If people that old want to keep jogging into the 100's then they should go private.

Do you have legal assisted suicide and euthanasia for the elderly and disabled in your country?

WE DON'T WANT IT HERE.

ALL human life is valuable.

That's the point...WHO gets to play GOD and decide that 90 year olds are unworthy of proper treatment and should just take a pain pill until death?

Case in point which I stated earlier on this thread...I have a 93 year old Grandma who lives alone, takes care of herself...she gardens, she mows her own lawn, she goes shopping, she goes for long walks....if she should fall and break a hip, Obama will tell her that surgery is not an option, her life is over because of her age, and that she should take a pain pill until she dies. It's insane!

I think assisted suicide is OK.. they do it in other european countries and it works ok.. not old people though, just those with such sickness that the morphine no longer works.. that is just a mercy, is all. If people go private it's ok.. they can pay for anything they want..

Imagine, pgpprotector, the GOVERNMENT decides that YOUR life is not worth the needed surgery but just take a pain killer. If you have a broken bone, how long is a person going to live by just taking a pain killer? It's a death sentence!

No one is advocating Assisted suicide and Euthanasia, certainly not President Obama. If anything he is speaking about triage.

DO you want that? If your aging parent breaks a leg, do you want them to be refused proper treatment because of their age and told to take a pain pill instead? It WILL kill them eventually because of complications.

Is it appropriate for the government to tell us that we can't have needed health care/surgeries because of our age?

Being born is a death sentence. I'm yet to see a mortal in the flesh walking around at the age of 500. Time is short on this earth and medicine doesn't relieve you of the human requirement of death.

You insist we are all blind and need to wake up....have you not considered the alternative? lol

Just an FYI My Parents are dead, so emotional appeals to my parents won't work.

If they were alive, and couldn't afford Health care then Biblically it would fall on Me, not the Government to take care of them.

Also Everyone is appointed to Die.

And if the Government is paying for it, then YES it is appropriate for the Government to tell us what we can & can't have done as far as health care.
