  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Will his supporters condemn this act, or will they support Obama regardless of his reckless disregard for our laws?

(CNN) — Speaking to Sunday church congregants in New Orleans, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama invoked Jesus' Sermon on the Mount days before the second anniversary of Hurricane Katrina...

...Obama blasted local, state and federal response to the storm, and touched upon ingredients necessary for the city's rebuilding

I don't see where there is a violation of the first amendment. Who is acusing him of that?
Looks like the author of the OP is accusing Obama.

It seems like some don't like when liberals speak of the Bible or enter a Church.

IMO, this thread was posted to draw out others so they can be called hypocrites, although I may be wrong.

It does my heart good to see conservatives embracing the first amendment.

I guess it depends on what the politicians are saying and what the clergy are saying. President Bush speaks at churches all the time, and its ok, as long as he is not campaigning, and as long as the clergy aren't endorsing candidates.

Oh wow....he's doing the "red letter" quotes DNC strategists have suggested candidates use. Limit the quotes from the Bible to the words of Jesus. Nothing more. Be interesting to see if he and other Democrats can adhere to this the entire campaign.

This all is prompted, of course, by Kerry's dismal showing among Christians who attend church at least once a week. The number crunching Clinton's pollster and Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) husband, Stanley Greenberg, did after that election stunned the party. But stragetists saw an opportunity. While Kerry only received 12% of the traditional evangelical vote, that small slice accounted for nearly 4% of his total votes. If Democrats can peel away just 5% or 6% more, they win. Get ready for a lot of "red letter" quotes between now and election day. They haven't even started yet.

And no, I don't think we will see Barry Lynn and others filing complaints with the IRS against Democrats or clergy who support Democrats as were filed against Catholic priests in 2004 who urged Catholics to vote according to the teachings of their church.

Speaking of quotes, I think the quotes at the bottom of the article are priceless.

The wise man may build his house on a rock, but the foolish man builds his house 16′ below sea level in an area surrounded by lakes and rivers, and is then greatly astonished when a hurricane floods the city.
There's not enough government in the world to fix dumb.

It's easy to criticize others when your own public record is paper-thin.

I will liken him to a person who builds their house in a depression by the sea.
The rains will descend, the floods will come and the winds will blow and beat on that house. It will flood and they will drown because water flows downhill.

This isn't going to affect my vote for him either way. :p
mine either.

I don't see a first amendment problem.

Campaign finance maybe, misuse of a non-profit organization in politics, I don't know.
IMO these laws, used for or against the libs, are a violation of the first amendment.

Obama won't get far saying America wasn't built on rock/strong foundation. America was built strong, and
Goverment is screwing it up. Talking of how bad stuff is now, might get votes, but talk bad about our heritage, and Americans will fight.
What he should have said is:
America was built on rock, but is expanding into sand,
and will weaken the foundation. But I think that would be illustrating the failed social programs, not the initial
American founders designs. When goverment sticks to
what it originally was intended, they do well.
Give tax money to the organizations that can show they
can help the poor and needy. Not just pumping money after money into a failed system.
goverment serving the people will remain fixed on the target, Goverment Procreating just to be bigger or using more money, is not in the best interest of society.
Politicians love to fix problems with another big goverment agency. It doesn't have to work, just be abel to point at it and say"I care, see what I did to help.":sigh:

You don't think it MAYBE has something to do with Obama's real Christian values and beliefs?

I hate it when politicians try to score brownie points in the churches. Further, I hate it when people are told how to vote from the pulpit (I'm not just talking about the politicians either). I thank God our pastor doesn't do those things or I would be finding another church. I don't want to see a politician in our church and I don't want to be told what to think politically. I am a sheep of one and Him only. If you are being told how to vote in a church, either liberal or conservative, RUN, don't walk, out of there.

He has written two books. Have you read them? He's been very open about his life.

Let me get this straight. Obama wants to be president, but if we want to get the information we need to find out more about him, we have to pay him for it? No thank you.
