I was a young man during the turbulent racial times of the 60's. I was very involved in those changing times.

I watched for decades as the relationships of the races became steadily better and better. Not perfect - in need of correcting here and there - especially within the cities of the nation.

Sports, elected black officials, the integration of many churches - particularly in "charismatic" circles all played little parts.

Integrated dating and marriage also played a part. My family is very mixed right now. That was not the case in the 60's.

Like most people who admired the work of Dr. King and others - I longed for the time when we would have a black president. Surly that would signal an end to racial divides.

As a Christian I could not support Mr. Obama in election - even though I celebrated him as our first black president.

I have been profoundly let down by his presidency.

He has set race relations back by decades. He could have been an MLK or a Lincoln. But he has taken another road altogether.

Even with his failures - he retains 90%+ support in our black communities. Even that, though, is a sign of the racial divide we are experiencing because of these last 6 years.

I'd like to see a Christian black man elected who could head us back to the harmony we were trudging slowly toward. Not much chance of that. But we (both black and white) can pray for it.

You fail to explain how Obama has set back race relations, though. As far as his support with black individuals, over 90% of blacks identify as Democrats, so that is already predictable.

Perhaps Obama had raised unrealistic hopes in the black community. When those hopes aren't realized frustration could set in, leading to all sorts of problems, which could exacerbate race relations.

He set nothing back. He helped to bring racism out of the closet to be discussed. The people on the right like it better when things aren't discussed, like race or gays. They would prefer if both groups went back in the closet and accept their fates.

Thank you for demonstrating how race-relations have been set back.

I've pretty much had it with liberals spamming the race card in order to silence people who disagree with you.

If someone disagrees with Obama from the right, they must be a racist...

I've had it.

By taking it out of the closet and discussing it?

I've pretty much had it with liberals spamming the race card in order to silence people who disagree with you.
Would that actually work? Or is it a case of reversies where you guys claim the race-card has been spammed so that liberals will be silenced, to keep us from discussing race?

If someone disagrees with Obama from the right, they must be a racist...
Oh nonsense. Some people are actual racists and we shouldn't have to pretend they are not.

I've had it.
And?

Accusing people of racism because they disagree with Obama is using the race card as a political weapon of intimidation. If that's your definition of "discussing it" then it explains why racial relations have been set back several decades...

The Democrats have been using the same racism song and dance routine for decades.

It's only recently that people have finally started calling your side out about it.

Oh nonsense. Some people are actual racists and we shouldn't have to pretend they are not.

And a lot of people who have been accused of racism are not, the overwhelming majority of those whom are falsely accused are conservatives.

Democrats/Liberals spam the race card/gender card/etc. over and over, and enough is enough.

I don't care what you've had it with. I don't see anybody here being silenced.

It seems that "discussion" means agreeing with whatever the person on the Left says. If the person on the Right doesn't agree, then the person on the Left concludes that the person on the Right isn't "discussing" the issue, but rather is sticking to his old ways of racism.

"Discussion" like that gets us nowhere--except more divided.

Oh nonsense. Some people are actual racists and we shouldn't have to pretend they are not.

This is an example of what he just told you, not to mention an example of what I just said above.

You are correct here. It took a person who doesn't have white skin to bring the fears of many people to the surface when they had been hidden before. Unfortunately, people would like to just pretend that these problems are not there than to admit them and fix them. I agree, there are a lot of people who would like to maintain the status quo and that others should just know their place.

I haven't seen that happen, but I have seen the reverse quite frequently. In this very thread, the accusation has been from you and your side.

If that's your definition of "discussing it" then it explains why racial relations have been set back several decades...
No, that isn't my definition, it is your straw man. It is difficult to discuss race if every time it is mentioned, one side accuses the other of "spamming the race card".

The Democrats have been using the same racism song and dance routine for decades.
Obama has not been in office nearly so long - yet it is his fault somehow.

It's only recently that people have finally started calling your side out about it.

And a lot of people who have been accused of racism are not, the overwhelming majority of those whom are falsely accused are conservatives.
Nobody has been accused - falsely or otherwise - of racism in this thread, but people have been accused of "spamming the race card"...how is that possible?

Democrats/Liberals spam the race card/gender card/etc. over and over, and enough is enough.
Who is trying to silence whom here?

Every time someone brings up the race issue, they get accused by those on the Right of being the true racists because they dare to bring the subject up. I am with Daisy on this one, it's not the liberals that are trying to shut down the discussion--it is those on the Right. However, this happens anytime people try to point out the elephant in the room that people don't want to see. It's not the moderates and the liberals who are trying to shut down the discussion, is it?

The discussion of race and the accusations that go with it have been around far longer than this thread.

Ok, then compile a list of discussions of race in CF and what came first - actual racist posts, accusation of racist posting or accusation of race card spamming.

Which do you consider the worst: racist posts, pointing out a racist post, falsely accusing a post of being racist, spamming the race card or false accusations of spamming the race card? My vote is for racist posts as the worst, with false accusations second and valid pointings out being ok.

Ok, well here's one that started off with someone claiming racism right off the bat: http://www.christianforums.com/t7861538/
