Obama awarded 2009 Nobel Peace Prize

Most people who win the award are somewhat socialists. No surprise here. The family that started the Nobel Peace prize was the family of the man who invented dynamite. They felt guilty.....I am so sick of societies making people feel guilty for the use of their brain and knowledge. The only good thing Obama has done....is being drastic with his socialist programs...it is making people open there eyes and realize what he is. The truly sad thing about Obama receiving this award ...somebody else was robbed of it... who has actually earned it. For a man to come up with peaceful ideas (which is never going to happen) and some good speeches (which I am sure he did not write)....just does not cut it for me. All it does is diminish the value of the award.Oh by the way....The actual voting for this award was held on February 1st 2009. 10 DAYS into the Obama presidency. That is what they were basing their votes on. There are people who have devoted their lives to the cause of peace who were overlooked....just so Obama could get an unearned award for 10 days of work. All the award is... a political platform, not a reflection on anything he has done...just on his beliefs.This is nothing different then somebody getting a promotion based upon something other then their performance.

as cool as it is that he got a nobel prize, it just seems weird to give someone a prize for his ideas rather than what he did already.
they seem to have many reasons for giving him it, but he hasn't really put them into practice yet.
so i'm not sure if this was very logical.

Riiight....or that's a rationalization some conservative might use when a conservative doesn't win the Nobel Prize.

As for me, I'm just worried that the early arrival of this Prize is only going to give ammunition to the anti-Obama portion of the population.

Oh it already has. Michael Steele is already attacking him for it. I'm sure the afternoon talk shows will have a heyday with it.

I'm not so sure he was deserving of it, but he shouldn't be attacked for it. He can't control who they vote for. But don't let that stop the right from sinking their teeth into this.

If these people didn't have outrage, they wouldn't have anything at all.

I'm not so sure he was deserving of it, but he shouldn't be attacked for it. He can't control who they vote for. But don't let that stop the right from sinking their teeth into this.

They're either going to say that Obama somehow used "Chicago-style" politics to influence the votes, or they're going to say that this is another example of Obama's storied ego. Or both.

I'm in neither category, I'm in the "This is just a statement on the previous administration" camp.

That's pretty much why I, and I think quite a few other people, believe this prize has been awarded. However I still think such a rationalisation is puzzling at best and therefore included myself in category 3

I agree. We should fund scientific programs to the best of our ability and encourage all people to reach for tomorrow, furthering the knowledge we have to attempt to better our own lives.

I think it is up to the Nobel Prize Committee to decide, and they did.
But personally I am glad for him/Obama.

I literally laughed. It is definitely purely a political prize. Mother Theresa was going to get it but she got passed over to a politician who wasn't all that great-so it is obviously a lefty socialist reward system-nothing more or less. Plus, Obama has none absolutely nothing-so this reward system isn't that credible-even more proof that its not.

Its ashame Cheney took this reward seriously. I would only want a reward by an organization that was credible. How don't care how hyped up it is.

No, this isn't like the Olympics issue. As I understand the process it isn't likely at all that Obama could have used any personal influence to affect the outcome of the process.

As for his ego, it will certainly enhance it. How could it not?

Or it could be neither. This selection is not a reflection on Obama. It would just as invalid if they gave the award to me. Neither one of us have done a darn thing. The problem is with the people who gave Obama the award. It should have gone to someone who deserved it.
