  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

(I'm pillorying things that people said about Obama and that Obama himself has said.)

No, you're not pillorying things he himself has said, but rather things that you, and the stupid blog from where you get your information, project upon him and attribute to him, which he did not in fact say about himself.

Furthermore, you're pillorying God's Word, mocking the account of the flood, mocking Noah, and mocking the style in which the Bible is written. THAT is blasphemous.

And most of all you are mocking God Himself. You take his titles and apply them to a man, and not to a man who has ever used those titles in reference to himself, but a man whom others are applying those titles to in false accusation and for political reasons. There is only one Christ, one Messiah, one Alpha and Omega. Obama has never called himself those things, and for you or anyone to say that he has is a LIE.

"And lo, behold the Age of Obama dawned, for in the years before Obama the sickly and ill suffered in the street, but forsooth, in yon age after Obama behold he sent his servants forth, and lo, they healed the sickly and ill. And lo, people called him the Alpha and the Omega. And there was dancing and song, and people sang, "Obama be thy name. Thy change will come."

Case in point. This is sheer stupidity.

It would be blasphemy if Panzer believed that O was the Messiah. He most certainly does not. But there are some supporters of O who verge on that. He is illustrating absurdity by being absurd.

Relax. You will live longer.
The fact that we can't seem to have a discussion about Obama without someone inevitably mentioning something about a "Messiah" says a lot about some conservatives and/or Republicans on this board. Those few Obama supporters who did supposedly say something about Obama being a "Messiah" finished with that nonsense months ago. And yet the "Messiah" talk continues to be thrown in the face of Obama supporters as though it happened yesterday. Childish.

Taking the possibly batty ideas of a few supporters, making it seem as though ALL Obama supporters - and Obama himself - think that way, and then mentioning it at every opportunity is a sure sign of having run out of good ideas.

I'd rather discuss issues with people that still have good ideas to offer. I'm done.

Dude I'm quoting things that people said. It ain't my stupidity. It belongs to someone else. I'm just mocking it, and mocking it rather effectively it seems.

If you don't like hearing what people have said about Obama, that's hardly my problem.

No, it's blasphemy to use the title "Messiah", which belongs to Christ alone, constantly as a vehicle for one's political views. It is most certainly blasphemous. Replace "Messiah" with "Christ" and it becomes very evident how blasphemous it is. Of course, none of the neo-cons do that because they know it will expose their blasphemy to those who are still too blind and ignorant to see it.

And I am relaxed. Do you think it is necessary to get uptight to express when something is offensive and blasphemous, or to point out the truth that it is when someone denies that it is? If so, well, sorry, you're wrong. You're just making presumptions.
I hope that I don't have to keep bringing up the point that it was Louis Farrakhan who first called Obama the Messiah and Oprah Winfrey who called him The One (and both times to rousing applause). Most people who bring this up are spoofing on those two. It was Obama himself who had the set of the DNC convention set up to look like Mount Olympus, where he decended from on high to mingle with the commoners.

It was also Obama who said the thing about the beam of light, and that his nomination marked the day the planet began to heal.

It's not as though I don't have any material from him or his supporters to work with. They've even got a secret salute. I'm learning all this in case I ever have to infiltrate.

Yeah, you're quoting things that SOME people said. You're not pillorying Obama. The problem is that you <staff edit> said you were pillorying Obama. That's what Cons do, <staff edit>

So the stupidity belongs to someone else, fine. So why do you bring it here? To say there are stupid people out there? Wow, what a revelation. You're just learning this now?

There are people out there who worship America, money, capitalism, NASCAR, NFL Football, sex, and myriad other idols. But you only see a few people worshiping Obama. <staff edit>

Or maybe you only selectively see those things that can cast Obama in a bad light <staff edit>? Or maybe you <staff edit> projecting the warped behavior of a few stupid people onto Obama???

People worshiped Bush, too. Churches encouraged it, and those are out there. I would never pin it on Bush what some stupid church did to worship him, though, no matter how stupid or anti-Christian I believe Bush was and is.

But that's the difference between Cons and liberals. <staff edit>

Wow, more irrelevant nonsense. Well, I guess that's a problem for all the followers of Farrakhan. Do you suppose this reveals a bad side to him? Or do you think maybe most people knew he's a nutjob to begin with?

As for Oprah calling Obama "the one", so what? When I was promoted in my job at one point, my director told me that part of the reason I was promoted was for a specialization I had, and said that she'd be looking to me for resolutions requiring that specialization, and told me that I was "the one". I constantly hear people, mostly women, who are single talk about finding "the one", meaning the one person they will marry and live the rest of their lives with. Similarly, within the context of speaking about politics and the choice for president, Oprah called Obama "the one". As in "the choice" that she is selecting and the one she advocates to her public.

Of course, Cons want to take it out of context when Oprah calls Obama "the one" so they can smear him and her and smear all Obama supporters by association. It's a cheap and stupid "trick", and I put that in quotes because it's so transparent I don't know who the cons think they're fooling other than themselves.

So if your sister tells you she's found "the one", meaning the man she's going to marry, that must mean she's worshiping him, right? If your boss says that you're "the one" for the new job, your boss is obviously worshiping you, right? What a stupid way to think, honestly.

By the way, YEARS before Obama did, as you call it, the "Mt. Olympus" setup, BUSH and Rove did the same thing, in order to worship Bush. Or did they not worship Bush? Is it possible that they did this to emulate Washington, DC, which itself emulates Roman and Greek architecture, including temples such as that found on Mt. Olympus???? Hmmm....wow, new discoveries every day, huh.

Can you prove to me it bothered you or any other cons so much when Bush did it that you ridiculed Bush for it? No, you can't, there is no evidence of that, because people weren't stupid enough at that point to fabricate false allegations based on the slightest meaningless details. Apparently, today people are stupid enough to fabricate false allegations based on the slightest meaningless details. And those people are Cons.

They are the ones they've been waiting for. They don't need us. They're waiting for themselves.

(Actually, what Obama said was, "We are the ones we've been waiting for." I'm not one of the we, though.)

Lo, and the age of Obama had begun, and he spaketh these words. "We are the ones we have been waiting for." So began the Age of Obama.

Comparing Obama to Bush as this point in their presidencies is apples and oranges. Obama is faced with an economy on the edge of a cliff. Bush was faced with...well....um...nothing. This early on in the Bush era all appearances pointed to an unnoteworthy presidency in an unnoteworthy era. That all changed one Tuesday morning in September.
To quote Lewis Black:
"George Bush was an idiot until September, 11."

According to the left, after that he was either still an idiot, a chimp, or some sort of Hitleresque evil genius. ^_^

Regardless of the causes (a valid discussion for another thread), Obama is a president during a tough time and will makes decisions that will get many upset. In contrast, Bush's early decisions were of such little consequence that few cared enough to get upset.
Bush's big initiative was to privatize social security - to have people invest their ss contribution in the stock market.

Bush took over Clintons mess adn then we were attacked and he was still more popular than this buffoon???
The attack is what made Bush popular; no one dared criticize the President during the time of crisis.

People would have been given a choice of treasury bills, stock market, or corporate bonds. Those people who had chosen the stock market would be down right now, true. But as it stands EVERYONE UNDER THE AGE OF 40 ARE ALL DOWN with the current system. Look up the statistics for the current system. It's bankrupt in 20 years or so.

Therein lies the problem: why make a good argument that leads to good discussion when one can simply fall back on tired smears about Obama being a "Messiah"?

Sarcasm isn't the problem. Failing to add anything good to a discussion except for unwarranted smears is the problem.
Ringo

I would rather the President covered up all their mistakes, creating outlandish excuses and firing people as scapegoats when necessary.

Only then can I have faith in the political system.
Now that ^^^ is an example of good sarcasm, sarcasm that makes a good point.

People would have been given a choice of treasury bills, stock market, or corporate bonds. Those people who had chosen the stock market would be down right now, true.
The people who pulled out of SS would be unlikely to have chosen treasury bills to get a significantly higher return. Some corporate bonds might be more than merely "down". And you seem to be ignoring the management fees that would be imposed. They can really kill an investment portfolio.

Social security isn't an investment; it's a form of insurance.

But as it stands EVERYONE UNDER THE AGE OF 40 ARE ALL DOWN with the current system. Look up the statistics for the current system. It's bankrupt in 20 years or so.
Um, I'm not sure you can say something "is" bankrupt in the future; at the most definite, you can say "will be" and, more realistically, "may be, if steps are not taken".

In 20 years or so, the system will not be bankrupt, but more will be going out than coming in. It will take another 30 years on top of that 20 for all previous contributions to be paid out.

However, if the contribution cap were raised then this might not happen at all.
