Do you think he went to the wedding an Cana naked?Archivist said:As to your question "Did Jesus wear clothes." At times he undoubtedly did. At other times he was most certainly naked. That's true for most of us today. There are times when we are wearing clothes and there are times when we are naked.
Yes Buzz, see my earlier post.Buzz Dixon said:Been watching the protests at the RNC on TV?![]()
Serious answer based on Biblical evidence: He may have slept in the nude. Sleeping in the nude may have been common in that era.Miss Shelby said:BTW, I asked a question earlier. Did Jesus wear clothes?
This point was made by Archivist. He used Rosa Parks as an example, but thank you for thatBuzz Dixon said:Hiding Jews in Nazi Germany.
I am not speaking of sleeping in the nude. I am talking about public nudity.Buzz Dixon said:Serious answer based on Biblical evidence: He may have slept in the nude. Sleeping in the nude may have been common in that era.
I cite where Christ told a parable where he said some who reach Heaven will do so as a sleeping man escaping a burning house would jump naked from the building. That seems to indicate sleeping in the nude was common enough for most people to understand the analogy.
It could have been his garment. But even if it was a sheet...he had the presence of mind to cover himself when heard people approaching. IOW, he didn't want anyone to see his tooshy.Second, in one of the accounts of the events in the garden of Gethsemane (John? Can't recall accurately right now), there's the enigmatic account of a man draped in a linen cloth (some versions translate as sheet) hearing the comotion and coming up to see what was going on. The temple guards tried to arrest him but only managed to grab the sheet, and the man escaped naked into the night. The implication is that he was asleep when he heard the noise and wrapped a sheet around himself.
I don't think this is funny.Y'know, Christ did his best work naked.
Think about it.
I don't see how using his passion and death can equate to his thread. It was a humiliating death. He suffered for us but I fail to see how somone wanting to frolick in the nude on a beach or whatever in a nudist colony can compare, nor do I find it a reasonable way to tribute anything to Christ.Buzz Dixon said:I wasn't trying to be funny, I was just pointing out a Biblical truth.
Christ was willing to endure all things for us. We fear nothing if we love Him.
Says a lot about the nature of the protesters....Archivist said:Actually I understand taht there were several of them protesting the GOP Convention just this week.
Again, my point is that you cannot make blanket statements like "it's always illegal" because it isn't.
The 'real problem' here is that it is clear both what the Bible taught and what most societies do regarding nudism, and you are doing backflips to avoid the clear truth of the matter, in my opinion.Archivist said:Michelle,
I was simply trying to show that you cannot make blanket statements like saying that nudity is always illegal. As I have shown, it isn't. Instead of simply agreeing you started making statements like "what IS illegal and done anyway is sinful" in an effort to show that you initial statement was right. The problem is that you were wrong again because there have been and still are many unjust laws, and it is NEVER sinful to break an unjust law. I was in no way comparing Rosa Parks to going nude--the point was that, as I just said, it isn't sinful to braek an unjust law.
As to your question "Did Jesus wear clothes." At times he undoubtedly did. At other times he was most certainly naked. That's true for most of us today. There are times when we are wearing clothes and there are times when we are naked.

But then that's just me...Using bathtime or sleeptime as arguments for public nudity is just... unfathomably unconnected.

Oh, but it is. Peter would not have fished nude because of the scriptured I have mentioned earlier regarding the long list of people who are not to be seen naked. Heck, there was a curse involved in well nigh accidentally seeing Noah naked, wasn't there?Archivist said:My understanding is that nudity was not as big a deal 2000 years ago as some people make it out to be today. It has already been pointed out that sleeping in the nude was the norm.
Depending on which version of the Bible you are using, it is possible that Peter was fishing naked when he saw Christ on the shore and jumped in to swim to him. Some translations say that he had taken off his outer garments while others say that he had removed his garments, indicating that he was naked. We do know that some of the artwork preserved from Roman times shows men naked in boats. So what you are calling "clear truth" isn't so clear.

Hiding Jews in nazi germany and nudism. Yes, I get the correlation.
Which implies you think laws concerning public nudity are unjust, and you are using racism and mass genocide as your corallary examples..................................................................................................................................Archivist said:Michelle,
No, you obviously don't get the correlation. The correlation is not between nudity and hiding Jews or nudity and Rosa Parks.
You were the one who wrote that "what IS illegal and done anyway is sinful." Buzz didn't write that, nor did I--you did. We are simply pointing out how very wrong that statement is because it is not sinful to break an unjust law.

The context is really more than clear. Roman artwork...![]()

You try fishing in the nude sometime..... :o It's not as fun and comfy I bet as you seem to think it would be, and he was there after all working, not for his playtime.

Believe it or not, we are not absolutely blind to our own positions here.
I regret making that statement. Because there are things that people have done which have been against the law and later became legalized later. (and were not immoral)Archivist said:You were the one who wrote that "what IS illegal and done anyway is sinful." Buzz didn't write that, nor did I--you did. So you really are drawing a parallel between genocide and nudity laws?Archivist said:You are obviously blind to you own position, because you are agreeing that "what IS illegal and done anyway is sinful." Saving the Jews was sinful? Standing up to segregation was sinful? I don't think so!
Archivist said:"Peter would not have fished nude." Were you there? How do you know this? I guess you know more about the subject than Biblical scholars.
