If it sounds too good to be true it probably is.
People who don't have evidence against something they just don't like tend not to share any evidence at all. They just state opinions.
Meanwhile, I know that we have over 300 reactor years** worth of experience with the physics of these breeder reactors. (Reactors years are accumulated experience; eg: 10 reactors running for 30 years each).
While I'm not a scientist, I read the peer-reviewed conclusions of energy experts and nuclear physicists and historians who show that the EBR2 ran smoothly for decades. It was a particular kind of Integral Fast Reactor prototype. In a few years G.E. will be testing the commercial viability of an exponential step forward with their S-PRISM, a particular variety of the Integral Fast Reactor which could just be some of the cheapest clean energy on the planet.
I'm sorry, but which of the scientific and historical facts I've linked to above do you dispute? None of this is particularly controversial. It's NOT like hoping one day they'll invent Mr Fusion. We KNOW the physics already works, but are just ironing out some commercialisation issues.
It's this simple: nuclear waste is now not the problem, but THE SOLUTION!
claim that it will solve all our energy needs forever with no waste and completely safe is a huge thing to say.
I didn't say I disputed any of your facts.
It's just the way that you are so enthusiastic and claim that it will solve all our energy needs forever with no waste and completely safe is a huge thing to say.
Look back through history and you'll see lots of similar claims. In the 1950s nuclear power was supposed to be the magic bullet that solved our needs, though that never materialised.
I'll reign in my enthusiasm until it actually happens.
Did you read the IFR or S-PRISM wiki?
No.
We've been told for decades that a solution to all our energy needs is just around the corner and it's never materialised.
When/If it happens I'll be delighted. I'm just tempering my enthusiasm until such high promises are actually seen to be fulfilled.
Did you know that we'd already HAVE them by know but President Clinton received some bad advice and pulled the plug on the funding for Argonne labs?
Yes. I hope history records him as one of our worst Presidents ever (and no, not just for that and Monica)
I thought that was Bush. He trumped up false charges against Iraq and sent America into a war on two fronts
then lowered taxes on the rich
if Bush had done what I said and concentrated on just one war against the people who actually committed 9/11, you guys could be flush with cash instead of trying to pay off the biggest national mortgage in world history!
Plus, Bush couldn't even talk. Us Aussies winced every time we saw him on our TVs.
