  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I notice that when Jesus came in person, those who had studied the Scripture most were the most hostile towards Him.

Here is the problem... Can we be experts in the word and not be hearing His Word?

The answer has to be yes...

On this forum there are 'experts' with diametrically opposing views.

The question then is what measures can we take to avoid this happening to us ???

Human loyalty is a common problem... Loyalty to a way of traditional thinking rather than hearing from Him.

Speaking beyond our received revelation is another - sharing Logos but not Rhema.

Needing to be heard from some form of insecurity.

Consider this scripture from Jeremiah 23:30 “Therefore behold, I am against the prophets,” declares the LORD, “who steal My words from each other...."

There is a lot of word stealing going on...

If we can hear the warning - what can we do to avoid being party to it??

Blessings,

Carl Emerson.

Actually it's not so much that those who studied the scriptures the most were against Jesus. The three major divisions of Judaism at the time were the Pharisees, the Sadducees, and the Essenes. The Pharisees and the Sadducees were at odds with one another, but the Essens were probably the most against both of those groups. Jesus was an Essene, and that put him at odds with them. But then many of the Pharisees became Christian but I do not know how many Essenes did.

Jeremiah 23:30 condemns those who "steal words", but prior to that their reasoning for stealing is spoken of:

Jer 23:25 I have heard what the prophets said, that prophesy lies in my name, saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed.

It was the prophesy of lies that is condemned. I'm sure that all those old time prophets who spoke lies were no different than the ones alive today who do the same things. Some leave the faith and go off on their own as Paul warns against in 1 Timothy 4. I'm sure that some of them mean well but they are simply wrong. It's been my experience that the single most common reason for it is that everyone claims to be their own authority, all the while rejecting every other authority.

Jesus pointed out that the Pharisees failed to understand the scriptures.

For example what Moses said about divorce, they weren't supposed to follow that rule. They also failed to recognize the Messiah according to the Scriptures. By this account, the Pharisees are not "experts" in the absolute sense. In a relative sense, maybe.

The Bible shows a dark future where these mistakes will happen again. Many, and probably most will fail to have understanding of the scriptures. And most will accept a false Christ.

Often when Jesus gives a warning, rest assured, is is bound to be broken by most! :o

Forums in which believers tussle with each other over theological issues while holding strongly to learned positions from denominational teaching brings dishonour to Him.

This is happening here.

How can we avoid becoming party to this.

How can we be sure to bring fresh bread to the discussion table.

What is Jesus saying today.

If the Pharisees were receiving fresh revelation they would have embraced Jesus.

Anyone with a fresh word?

What is Jesus saying??

Blessings,

Carl Emerson.
