To get the real story about what's happening in LA, listen to Jimmy Kimmel's monologue on June 10th. He lives in Los Angeles as do the hundreds in his studio audience and his staff. They showed pictures all over LA of people shopping, eating at street vendors, lining up for Disney movies and just having a grand old time. They were all completely unworried except for the unnecessary military escalation. Kimmel said that there were so many people living in Los Angeles far longer than he had, working, contributing to the community, with deep roots and strong ties but without green cards or citizenship. He then said that people with masks were abducting them because what they were doing could not be called anything but abduction. Of course these were interspersed with ridiculously incoherent statements by Trump, about cleaning up the forests almost all of which are actually federal Forest Parklands, and. about the water that was being sent to the ocean while the forest fires were raging, another complete lie. I guess there are people as incoherent as he is to whom this makes sense but everything he said in those clips was absolute nonsense. My sympathies to the people of Los Angeles. They deserve a president who is on their side and who is not a national embarrassment.

This is a video of Kimmel's monologue:

You can listen to it all. But I recommend that you just skip through to 9:50 and listen to a succession of presidents from Eisenhower onwards talking about US immigrants. I think it says it all.

I stopped reading after this. Just as bad as watching the shrills on The View.

Before the President sent in much needed help.
It would be prudent for individuals to examine polling data, which consistently demonstrates that a significant majority of legal immigrants support the policies advanced by President Trump. Upon closer inspection, it becomes evident that those participating in recent riots are predominantly undocumented immigrants or individuals who have been compensated to protest. This naturally raises the question: who is financing these demonstrations and supplying protective equipment to the participants?

Unfortunately, many people who rely on sources such as late-night television or daytime talk shows for their information remain deeply misinformed. It is important to recall that, under federal law, "insurrection" is defined as a violent uprising or organized resistance against the authority of the United States government or its laws. Specifically, 18 U.S. Code § 2383 makes it a federal offense to incite, assist, or engage in rebellion or insurrection against the United States.

Furthermore, the Supreme Court has affirmed that only the President possesses the authority to declare an insurrection and invoke the Insurrection Act. Given that the enforcement of national defense and immigration policy falls exclusively within the purview of the federal government—as established in the Supreme Court’s decision in Arizona v. United States—the events unfolding in Los Angeles appear to constitute a direct challenge to federal law and authority.

Should President Trump choose to invoke the Insurrection Act and impose martial law, thereby detaining those engaged in unlawful protest, he would be acting within his legal, constitutional, and arguably moral authority. That he has thus far refrained from doing so speaks to his restraint.

Just some links to just some of the protests over the last few days. Some people were arrested for obstruction and other minor charges. By the police. No National Guards involved. Beats me why the president isn't calling them out in the dozens of cities where these protests are going on. And it beats me why you aren't posting pics of these other cities. Probably because there were no burning cars and the three burning in L.A. make great pictures if you want to insinuate that the city is in danger of burning to the ground. Because that was what Trump said was likely to happen. He lied to you. Yet again.

How does that actually feel when you support him? I mean, if someone lies to me I might grant him or her the benefit of the doubt on the first occasion. If they do it a second time then I'd seriously consider what sort of character I'm dealing with. If they continually lie then...well, what do you do? Ignore it? I'm really keen to know.

But anyway, he threw you the treat and you've focussed on it so intently you haven't even bothered to think about what he's actually doing. Everyone else is watching it wondering why in heaven's name you can't see it yourself.

He lied to you again. And you keep on accepting it. Why? These farcical statements by Trump (which he repeated at least a half dozen times in one interview) barely rise to the level of fantasy.

'It becomes evident'? The only thing that's evident is that Trump can literally say anything he wants to and you'll accept it. It's beyond bizarre.

I noticed the Trump clips were heavily edited. The footage of people having a grand old time was taken in Hollywood, not downtown Los Angeles where the riots are. As for the rest, I hope his usual comedy/melodrama hyperbole wasn't meant to be taken seriously.

Yes, let's examine bona fide polling data. Latino support for Trump has climbed according to one poll. It measures only Hispanic immigrants where it finds Hispanics approve of Trump overall at 60%. MSN
Unfortunately, this was measured in late May and does not include all immigrant citizens nor does it look specifically at immigration policy. Still, it is good news for Trump if the numbers hold.

So what about latino support for immigration policies of Trump?
"Thirty-nine percent of Americans, including 35 percent of Hispanic Americans, approve of his handling of deportations." More Hispanics disapprove of Los Angeles protests than approve—Poll
As to the protests "Forty-four percent of Hispanic respondents said they disapprove of the protests, while 39 percent said they approve of them. An additional 17 percent were unsure how they felt."

So do a majority of Hispanics favor the GOP immigration policies? "“Foreign-born voters have gone tremendously to the Right on this issue in 2024 and 2025 versus where they were in 2020,” said Enten. “You go back to 2020, Democrats, get this, held a 32-point lead on this issue. Immigrant voters were in the Democratic camp. Jump forward to 2024, 2025. Look at that shift. A 40-point shift to the Right among immigrant voters.”
Interestingly, this article says the democrats lost their 32% advantage as 40% shifted. However, the article does not say if this is even a majority yet. New data reveals legal immigrant voters shift towards Republicans on immigration
Instead the author convolutes statistics looking at overall voting gains or other indicators for immigrant voters. So is there a shift to a majority of immigrant voters? Yes, a shift but unknown if a majority. 54% though for all groups.

"But multiple polls since November have consistently shown that people trust the Republican Party more to handle immigration. It's pretty notable that Trump gets better marks on immigration than the economy, for example. That's a reversal from his first term. But it's not like 54% is very high,"

Regardless of the polls, the USA sure has managed a great turnaround since Shay's rebellion in 1786 Massachusetts. If you don't recall, the state government was not strong enough to put the rebellion down and other state's refused to help. Thus, Shay's rebellion demonstrated the need for a stronger confederation and often is cited as one of the reasons for drafting and passing the U.S. Constitution. 200 plus years later, and now we have the state NOT wanting federal help but national soldiers are there in SPITE of the state. Funny how Trump never sent aid to a state that never declared it a disaster area. Sometimes he does not send aid to a state that requests it.
According to this article, Trump is once again seeking to expand the power of the Presidency. Should we be concerned if he stretches it too far? Perhaps because the next President might use the same precedent to put down another class or group of people. (you know like gun owners for instance). Here is one legal synopsis of Trump and the use of troops. It seems to concur that Trump needs to use the Insurrection Act which he thus far has avoided. Is Trump authorized to send troops to LA? What to know

If anyone has poll numbers for Trump support on immigration from immigrant voters please post the link. I could not find anything but the 40% swing which is huge. I think it remains to be seen on the protests and meat packing plant raids where most of the unlawful are Hispanic.

Before the President sent in much needed help.
You look at a few pictures and accept the nonsense that this is what is happening al over the city. You could probably find car fires on any night in every city in the country.

In the meantime, you hear what a decades long resident of LA who happens to host a talk show talks about his lived experience and on the ground perceptions of the city where he lives--which were shared with every member of the audience.

Why are you accepting the lies of a man who has only listened to 12 security briefings in five months? He doesn't want to hear a security briefing about what's really happening in LA (Mr. President, your troops are inciting anger all over California, where before they arrived, there were only a few isolated incidents) because he prefers his fantasy life.

The poll is Yougov. I just went through the website and I have no idea how they are able to distinguish who is Hispanic??
Anyone know? I signed up but there is no place to identify myself as a Hispanic.
Thanks !

This is what troubles me the most.
Such a large number of citizens of the United States are on board with incoherent nonsense as long as it seems to protect their own personal self interest.

Not to be THAT person, but the last two pictures are of the same thing, nice try, and first one could be too, as we can't tell. BUt given whats in the last two 70% sure it is, so yeah, one street burning, not a good thing, but you need to do better to show that there is wide spread rioting.

According to this poll, most immigrants (62%) disapprove of the way President Trump is handling immigration. I haven't been able to find any others that directly address how immigrants feel about Trump's immigration policies since he began his second term.

Some additional results of the poll:
