• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi,

Just thought I'd write, I am newly diagnosed with Bipolar Type II I think...in September. I'm having a hard time with it at the moment, and often don't take my medication properly. I am currently taking epilim and I'm also on Lovan for the depression (prozac) and I am also taking anti thyroid tablets as I have graves disease. I don't often take my medication though. Yesterday I had to have a Brain CT scan as I have had head pain and neck stiffness with tingling in fingers, speech and vision disturbances and coordination problems. Also my brain feels incredibly slow, which is different to normal (I'm sure other manics will understand that feeling) And now I have to wait for the results. After all this rambling, I do have a question, if I am having a depressive or manic episode, when should I go to the hospital? I am one of those people that feel that they aren't really that sick and I do look as if I am coping well but inside I'm not....

You will get good advice and also different advice because we have all had different but the same things that happen to us. I also have physical problems as well as my mental, I have fibromyalgia. It's very painful. I'm sure you heard about it. anyway, back to you,
The first thing pretty much EVERYBODY will tell you is NEVER mess with your meds!! unfortunatly, with bipolar meds are a trial and era type of thing but, when you find the right one. please don't mess around with it, like stop because you think that you don't need it anymore That will mess you up big time and also can set you back ( all the progress) so , stay on your meds! If they are making you feel like your in a bubble, like, you head is slow, that could either be because you just started a med or that's not the med for you.
If it's because you just started a med , give it a while because usually the side effects go away after awhile depending on the med.
Well, Too much writing, Hope you find all the advice you get helpful.
Again, welome to our thread
Zita if you would like to pm me that's fine!

Thank you for your response.

I'm feeling a bit better today, and I have taken my medication so far. I rang the Dr for the results of the scan and the receptionist told me that it was fine and the Dr didn't need to see me, meanwhile I am still in pain. I had to ask for another apt, which I am not really impressed with, but we will see what happens when I go to see him today, maybe I am meant to just live with the headache that has been going on for two weeks now....

I have heard of fibromyalgia, it is very painful.

What is graves disease? I'm sorry for the headaches, I know because I have migraines that last up to 4 or 5 days non stop! I can't lift my head, talk, open my eyes and the neasea is the worst!!! I have meds for the sick to my stomache thing.

Well, GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!
My prayers are with you!

I get headaches so often, I should be considered an expert. (Of course, that's my own opinion. ;) ) A headache lasting that long is not normal, and does need to be checked. It may be nothing *important* though, like just a stubborn sinus or tension headache. It could also be the meds you are taking that is making your head hurt. I don't use technical terms, but the drugs do change the chemicals in you brain, causing a headache. For relief, have you tried applying ice to the location of your head that hurts? That, along with some Excedrine Migraine cures mine every time. However, ask you doctor or pharmacist about mixing pain relievers with your other meds. You do not want to poison yourself, or stop the effects of your other prescriptions.

I also have this eye patch type ice pack that you leave in your freezer until you need it that contains strong herbs (mine has lavender and chamomile. I love that it calms..). It stays cool for at least two hours, and if you respond better to heat than cold, you can place it in the microwave for about 60 seconds and the heat lasts even longer. The only place I've seen them is in those little island shops in the mall. They are specialty items. Online, you could try to google "Aromatherapy Eye Packs". They may seem expensive (if you purchase them at the mall, you may be able to talk the price down, like I did.), but they pay for themselves after first use and after you finally get some relief.
