• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I wonder if it is worse that they try to explain away to try and take God away from children. Or to try to get them to turn their back on God. What do you think is worse?
I would say both are pretty bad.

For the ones who try to take God out of the equation:

Matthew 23:15 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.

... and for the ones who try to get children to turn their backs on God:

Mark 9:42 And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.

They're there in the jewelery my neighbors wear, the billboards on my way to work, the synagogue I vote at, the video games I used to play, the televangelist programs that are in the doctor's waiting room, and a thousand other little things you may not even notice.

What about those whose Christianity is so irrationally rigid and fallacious it pushes people away?

Don't believe everything you read.
I don't -- I refuse to consider myself a Homo sapiens.

According to the Bible, it can -- and does -- lead some to atheism.

So cute.

There's nothing like an innocent question embedded in a vent, is there?

I have no clue what you mean, so my best guess is no.

You have any response to the substance of my post? did you read it?

I'll elaborate on it - I've bought a brand that promises kosher hot dogs before (I like the taste), and I bought a bag of bread once that had a quote from Ezekiel on it. Instead of complaining about the tedium of seeing religion everywhere, including my food, I ate it. It tasted good. Similarly, when my friends serve me matzah and bad wine during passover, I don't complain about the tedium of constant religious intrusion into my life - I enjoy the food and the good company.

Shades of Lester Roloff!

Some are already gone, so please don't go there with me, eh?

As my pastor says, should it get to the point that they threaten to take away our tax-exempt status because I preach against [certain lifestyle], then this church with start paying taxes; but if it gets to the point where I can't preach against [certain lifestyle] without being arrested, then I'll preach from jail and/or this church will go underground.

Yes, I read it -- you should know how I feel then.

And for the record:

Ah, yes. This is a great example of how religion permeates every fabric of American life.

You read my post and did not reply in any sort of substantial way. I suppose I could draw the conclusion that you have no respect for my opinions and arguments and deem them unworthy of reply. Is that what you wish me to do?

You see, this is text based communication, I cannot see your face, I cannot read your body language, I cannot hear your tone of voice, and without these clues your simple refusal to respond to a post can thus be interpreted in many ways. And, considering that you are offering me no guidance as to how I should interpret your silence, I'm going to interpret it as I wish, as an acceptance of my points. I'll conclude that your constant interaction with ideas you disagree with is not particularly special, and that you are unable to cope with this fact.

I don't buy this one bit, Naraoia.

If I did, then the next time I saw a grave-robbing scientist out on the field looking for bones, I'll go up to him and ask, "Didn't you get the memo? You guys don't need bones anymore."
How did we get from "we can infer many things about macroevolution from living things alone" to "we don't need bones any more"? Notice that one of those statements is a lot more general than the other...

And what's up with the loaded language? Come on, grave-robbers? When did you become so concerned with the dignity of dead dinosaurs?

Good -- then the next time a shrewdness of scientists want to be sponsored to the next bone orchard, they can be told that their services are needed elsewhere?
Well, chances are that already happens to most of them. It's kinda hard to get funding for anything these days, and I imagine palaeontology isn't the most highly prioritised area.

You want truth?

The Truth is, there's Someone coming that scientists won't ignore and walk around.

In fact, they are going to bow the knee to Him.
Just we wait!

I'm just an ambassador.
An ambassador they forgot to enlighten about the basics of diplomacy.

You guys think you know enough to literally call yourselves wise men, but the Bible makes you look foolish.
May I remind you, for the umpteenth time, who named the human species Homo sapiens?

If you want, I'll also happily quote the ICZN rules about priority at you. But I believe we've been there before...

I was in a Inner City Mission Episcopal Church back before I got married. They recently seperated from the Episcopal Church because of this issue. Now it turns out that the building belongs to the Episcopal Church so they have to give up their building. I do not know who owns the building next door where they have the offices, but I put a lot of work into that building working on the plaster and the drywall. We all put lot of work into that church that we did not get paid for. But they will maintain themselves as a inner city mission church in the new building. So is your pastor willing to seperate from his denomination and give up his building?

How can they push people away from having a relationship with God?
They can only push them away from being a part of their group.

If you were communicating by mail with somebody who never wrote back--but a group of people claiming to represent him told you that he hated you, or acted in such a way that you wanted nothing to do with them-- and the person you were writing to never said a single word to you...how could you maintain a relationship with him?
