Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

How about we enjoy our bread and grape juice and let you guys classify & reclassify, track & backtrack, and whatever?

"We all want progress, but if you're on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; in that case, the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive."
C. S. Lewis, Mere Christianity

Turning around can be a good thing. So can reclassifying. So can backtracking.

Never ever turning around, never ever acknowledging one's errors, never ever learning is just stupid.

You want truth?

The Truth is, there's Someone coming that scientists won't ignore and walk around.

In fact, they are going to bow the knee to Him.

I'm just an ambassador.

No, you're a guy speculating. She wanted truth, not opinion.

Oh, and be careful about what you say about your brothers and sisters in Christ who are scientists.

What country R U from? Last I checked this is still American. You may have a problem if you were to try and show that Amerians are intellectually lazy and just do as they are told. R U from the south or something. Maybe the slaves in the south use to be that way.

Yes, attack the person, not their arugments. I wasn't particularly arguing intellectual laziness on the whole in American[sic], but rather a lazy attitude to critically think about their religious convictions. But, while we're on the subject, America ranks average and below in education, worldwide (World education rankings: which country does best at reading, maths and science? | News | guardian.co.uk).

Wow, so you're claiming Americans aren't intellectually lazy and then resort to prejudice twice in one post.

Classic.

Are you now? Jesus told his ambassadors to walk away from people who won't listen to them. To knock the dust of the town from their sandals. You don't do that. You keep harassing people who want nothing to do with you.

Jesus told his ambassadors to teach love. He never said anything about science or politics. How many orphans could you have fed, if you weren't obsessed with stuff Jesus never saw fit to mention?

If a Jesus returns, the scientist's will answer to him, and maybe they'll have been wrong and maybe they'll have been right.

But, even if they're wrong, they'll be the best sort of wrong--they'll have honestly pursued the truth, and were honestly mistaken, which is more than you can say.

This is the same empty threat you guys have been trumpeting for the last, what, 2000 years?

Um ... I don't have to be careful.

Philippians 2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

I'm going to be bowing the knee as well.

You took that as I saying scientists were unregenerate, didn't you?

(Don't bother to answer.)

No, it really isn't.

The AntiChrist is a scientist, you see, specifically an evolutionary biologist. Obviously this is what John of Patmos was driving at.

Oh no wait, it wasn't - it's about two years old and was made up by some internet creationist.

At least the classic threats have a bit of history behind them! ^_^

What can I say - you keep saying the same junk over and over again, you get a reputation for it. God did warn about being accountable to one's words - but colour me unsurprised, you don't even want to stick by your own rules.

Threat?

We Christians are going to be doing it too.

(Caught you with your doctrines down, didn't I?)

You guys think you know enough to literally call yourselves wise men, but the Bible makes you look foolish.

How about I just color you ignorant of Satan's devices and let it go at that.

After all, it sounds like a compliment, doesn't it?

Yes, we're so dumb for thinking you weren't talking about scientists Jesus instead of scientists worshipping the antiChrist, because it's not like you fire that tired one off all the darn time either. They're not our doctrines, they're yours.

But bravo, AV, turning your own shoddy reputation into a way to browbeat those you disagree with. Inventive, but if this is what the Bible does to you, you can keep it.

Our kids can't walk the streets anymore without coming home and having to have something explained away.
The children in Iraq can not walk down the street without having to worry about someone blowing off an arm or a leg. I have a friend that lost a leg in viet nam. He would say he was ok because he knew God. The vets that did not know God had a lot more of a problem dealing with their injurys. I wonder if it is worse that they try to explain away to try and take God away from children. Or to try to get them to turn their back on God. What do you think is worse?

Not too ignorant to tell us Christians we're wrong though, are you?

How about we enjoy our bread and grape juice and let you guys classify & reclassify, track & backtrack, and whatever?

But when you guys start pumping your rhetoric into our living rooms via simple shows on Animal Planet, or put up signs at the local zoo about 'millions of years ago this' and 'millions of years ago that', and having mini lectures before letting a group into the viewing room just to see the rings of Saturn; it tends to get tedious.

Our kids can't walk the streets anymore without coming home and having to have something explained away.

If you've got problems with your kids learning about the formation of the solar system 4.5 billion years ago, then get your own telescope and look at saturn from your back yard. As long as you're using someone else's resources, then you're going to have to deal with the consequences. If you want to avoid modern society and its reliance on science, then go ahead and set up a parallel society, no one's stopping you.

I encounter religious ideas I disagree with on a near-constant basis in my daily life. They're there in the jewelery my neighbors wear, the billboards on my way to work, the synagogue I vote at, the video games I used to play, the televangelist programs that are in the doctor's waiting room, and a thousand other little things you may not even notice. I'll tell you something - it doesn't make me tremble with the tedium of it all. You see, I bring a book to the doctor's office. Instead of worrying that all this religiosity is going to infect me and our kids, I live my life and deal with it if it comes up.

In a pluralistic, open, free society, you're going to constantly encounter ideas you disagree with, and so will your children. If you want to live in and benefit from said society, and you and they are unable to cope with this, then all of you are going to live very unhappy lives indeed.
