Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Not transitional?

Why would the fact that genetics alone is sufficient to demonstrate the validity of evolution mean we would stop gathering evidence and checking our ideas?
I'll tell you what:

When you guys are done "gathering evidence", then come and try and convince us Christians who know our Bibles that Genesis 1 isn't literal.

Until then...

Nah, we'll just leave you marginalised and irrelevant instead.

I don't understand the fuss over finding "transitional" fossils. All it takes to be "transitional" is to have offspring.
Right -- "We're all walking transitional fossils."

Heard that before.

Just because my mom had children, doesn't mean a shrewdness of scientists can run out and connect the Atom-to-Adam dots.

I don't buy this one bit, Naraoia.

If I did, then the next time I saw a grave-robbing scientist out on the field looking for bones, I'll go up to him and ask, "Didn't you get the memo? You guys don't need bones anymore."

Good -- then the next time a shrewdness of scientists want to be sponsored to the next bone orchard, they can be told that their services are needed elsewhere?

You don't have to buy it. Given the choice between understanding and ignorance, you openly and proudly choose to be ignorant. You're the kid who runs up to the honor's level class and shoots spitballs and the kids who are actually interested in the subject being taught. You're the sort of person that scientists do best to ignore.

The simple fact is that genetics, on its own, would be enough to prove evolution. And fossils, on their own, are enough to build a very strong case. Having both gives people who care about knowledge even more ways to learn, and more ways to check their knowledge.

But you've openly stated that having knowledge and understanding doesn't matter in the slightest to you, so the fact that you don't "buy" it doesn't matter to us.

Yup - not hard to know more than a creationist who's closed his mind.

Funnily enough, I hear creationists haven't had any more success in determining what "kind" this creature was either. Oh well, it's not like they allegedly have access to the creator of everything or anything like that ^_^

That ain't gonna happen. They got lotsa talk, but not one shred of evidence. They simply can not prove that the Bible is not true. It is no wonder that the vast majority of people in this country are christians. Esp when you see how much of the Bible we can prove is true. What is it, only about 1.5% of the people are atheist?

Only the ones who are either too afraid or too intellectually lazy to critically think about what they've been told to believe.

If you think that changing the classification of something as a result of considering new evidence is ignorant, then yes, yes I am calling you ignorant. More than that, I am calling you utterly unimportant. You pose as if you're some kind of nemesis of science--fighting back and posing an obstacle, demanding things that are logically impossible and then looking smug.

The truth is, I've seen real life conversations between scientists and people like you. The scientists don't bother to prove things to you guys. They don't see you as an obstacle. They barely see you at all. You don't actually get in their way for any longer than the second it takes to step around you. They literally just shrug or nod, say something to humor you and walk away.

Real arguments are listened to. Real arguments with mistakes are considered and corrected. People who don't even know enough to manage to be wrong? Not worth the time it would take to correct.

What country R U from? Last I checked this is still American. You may have a problem if you were to try and show that Amerians are intellectually lazy and just do as they are told. R U from the south or something. Maybe the slaves in the south use to be that way.

That's right. We fully admit that learning implies that we were previously ignorant. Refusing to learn is just stupid.
Not too ignorant to tell us Christians we're wrong though, are you?

How about we enjoy our bread and grape juice and let you guys classify & reclassify, track & backtrack, and whatever?

But when you guys start pumping your rhetoric into our living rooms via simple shows on Animal Planet, or put up signs at the local zoo about 'millions of years ago this' and 'millions of years ago that', and having mini lectures before letting a group into the viewing room just to see the rings of Saturn; it tends to get tedious.

Our kids can't walk the streets anymore without coming home and having to have something explained away.

I'm not sure anymore, Jazer; as Satan, being the craftsman that he is, threw a ... monkey wrench ... into the statistics with his newest tactic:

Strong atheist this, weak atheist that, agnostic atheist this, atheist agnostic that, weak agnostic/strong atheist here, strong agnostic/weak atheist there, all play havoc on the statistics.

Personally, one of my favorite things in my life is being able to figure out precise ways where I've been wrong, so I can figure out how to do something better the next time.

I just made a budget for the first time, and it was horrible--atrocious. Seeing all the ways I've been wasting money, and seeing in black and white how much I actually have and how much I spend was ...a little terrifying. I needed to take crying breaks.

And then--having those problems written out like that made it so much easier to see how to solve them. I'm one step closer, today, to being the sort of person I want to be. And as bad as it was to uncover the ways I've been wrong in the past, it feels *awesome* to be able to figure out ways to be better in the future.

I can't imagine anything worse than pinning down a point in my life where I decide I'm right, and then refusing to learn any more. Why would I want to be the same at 27 as I was at 18? I was a child at 18!

Why would I aspire to be the same at 50 as I am at 27! That's probably the worst fate I can imagine!

Well, not that it matters, seeing as majority opinion doesn't decide truth...

...but, er, what did God throw at you guys that you ended up with 39k denominations? Logic?

The Truth is, there's Someone coming that scientists won't ignore and walk around.

In fact, they are going to bow the knee to Him.

I'm just an ambassador.
