I was reading through a sunday school lesson tonight and something hit me. Many people have said "We don't need to follow the old laws anymore because that was the old testament." They basicly said Gods rules have changed.

But I just came to understand something. It is true He established the new law and the old is ready to be done away with. BUT, He said in the new, we establish the old. What does this mean?

Simple, we are still bound by the same law (10 commandments, on down to circumsitian (spelling?)). But, The way the law is followed is now different. The circumsitian is of the heart. The 10 commandments are still to be followed, but you can only follow them in the spirit of God. And when you fail, there is still sacrifice, but it is already made for us and has no need of being made again.

Thus, fornication is still wrong, lust is still wrong, and the same rules that God set up are still in place. The only differance is that now we have the ability to carry the law out, and if we fail we already have redemption.

I hope you could understand this. I just thought it was nice.

Yes, very true and it's a great message. Jesus did not come to change the law, but to fulfill it! And I wanted to add that Jesus was the perfect Sacrifice no longer needing animal sacrifices. God calles us to be living sacrifices for we are in Christ--sacrificing our lives to serve His will. Great message, looksgood.

The circumsition of the heart is a good thought, but circumsition was abolished by the gospel (Eph. 2:11,15; Col 3:11) and is no longer necessary (Gal. 2:3-5). But it doesn't hurt to write on your heart God's covenant with you!

Thanks, I am glad it wasn't too hard. I knew if you didn't understand what I was getting at it would be seen as herasy lol. I am glad you added that about Jesus being the sacrifice. I touched on it when I said "there is still sacrifice but it is already done and needs not to be made again." What you said is what I was geting at with that.

True, it was not needed. But like I said, it is now still required, but now it is required on your heart. The circumsition not made with hands.

I am glad you liked this, and even more glad you understood what I was tring to say lol.

It is very sad to see Christians try to negate God's law simply because they don't want to obey it. I think many people develope that unbiblical doctrine from Romans, but I think they should read what Paul said a little more closly and they'll find that he wasn't negating the law at all--in fact, he was revealing the puprose of the law and it's prefect goodness.

I'm likewise glad you understand this when so many professing Christians try to attack this wonderful, biblical truth. And to attack it is to attack Jesus' very Lordship! That is very dangerous ground to be standing on--btw, Jesus will win this debate no matter how stubborn you are! ;)
