  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Jesus said not one letter of the Torah would disappear until Heaven and Earth pass away. (Matthew 5:18)

Assuming that has not happened...

This means that Jews at the time should still keep the Torah, but as Paul teaches, they are not saved by the Torah, but by faith. So, they are supposed to keep God's laws, but it is their faith that saves them, not the laws.

They also decided in Acts that the gentiles didnt have to become Jews and keep the Torah to really be saved.

It kind of strikes me as odd that 20 centuries later we have a whole bunch of laws taught by the Church which remind me a lot of all of the laws that the Jews had to follow to be saved.

Did we trade one law for another, as gentiles?

No these are not laws as from God in the Torah. These are truths instructed through the Church for the good of our souls. They don't require judgement here on earth but exist to establish what we as the Body of Christ believe. Consider them more tools for your salvation. Faith in Jesus looks different from faith in Satan or faith in Buddha. The doctrine of the Church explains what Jesus taught in a tangible and functional manner. It is not assumed that every person can or will learn everything there is to know in this 2000 year old faith. The Church helps us by guiding us through these doctrines allowing the Grace of God to pour through each sacrament and devotion.

Also remember that Jesus said He did not come to abolish the law but to fulfill it. The values that established the Law are still true, even more so through His life, death and resurrection. We are not bound by the Law but we are always obligated to live out the values that established it because they are of the source and substance of God.
