• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I have at least five agnostics and atheist at my work none of which fear dying, going to hell, or fear of no heaven like I do. by the way is fear of no heaven a common o.c.d. thing. it is just not fair!!!!!

I didnt used to fear death at all or heaven not being there or hell or anything well religiously anyway.

These people arent even of God and they have peace it is sooo not fair. I dont get it! Not that I dont feel bad for them I do but it is still not fair.

Also I wonder why it is I am so certain I am damned to hell and there is one but so uncertain there is a heaven. My religion believes in both. I dont want to even get out of bed anymore. I just worry all day. I would rather sleep and not have to think.

When you feel an Obsessive Thought, hand it over to God and refocus on something else. (I don't practice what I preach but it's what I'm told and I'm trying it as much as I can)

If you have something that you can do when you feel those thoughts, do it and "refocus"

First of all, life isn't fair. :) Even spiritual giants in the Bible lamented over that while they went through life. But have no fear, there are some who are choosing to get their dessert first and some who are waiting for the best - which is yet to come. The wicked are getting their dessert now. Pay no attention to them. Their time will come - and it likely will come very suddenly. And then nobody will envy them. Jesus himself said that those who follow him will have a harder time at life than those who do not. Why? Well, let's start with the #1 reason. The day you gave your heart to Christ you gained one heck of an enemy - Satan. He really saw no reason to bother you before because why? He had you in his grasp. But now, he's going to try to bother you a whole lot. He's already lost you (and he knows it) and he's going to try to prevent you from reaching/influencing others for Christ. He's going to try to use your OCD against you. Expect it!!

Listen, not everything about OCD is out of our control though. The intrusive and unwanted thoughts. Sure, yes. They are out of our control. They come from where they come from (who knows where) and they go wherever they want to. You can't really do much about that. What you can do though is CHANGE how you respond to them. It doesn't mean that your life will all of the sudden be peachy. However, if you respond in the right way and you continually rely on God to help you through this struggle you'll do a whole lot better than the next guy beside you who has OCD who has decided to go it alone.

We all know how bad OCD is/can be. You don't have to tell us that it can freak you out and completely paralyze you. We know that. We're not trying to sugarcoat things here. OCD can be a big mean problem. But, you can survive it and indeed thrive even though you have it - because God will help you to do just that!

Everyone tells me to just relax put my faith in God. I am doubting and obessing there is no heaven. He is going to send me to hell. How am I supposed to relax.

It's because you believe your doubts and reason over God's word and promises in Christ.

As I mentioned a couple of days ago on here in another post, remember the thief on the cross beside Jesus when you're tempted to doubt your salvation. What did the thief do? Well, we know he probably did a whole bunch of things wrong. Hence why he ended up on a cross - a place where the Romans put many people that had done bad things. It could very well be that he had never heard of Jesus before either. And yet in a spirit of faith he simply asked Jesus to remember him in paradise. And we know for sure that Jesus saved him because he said that today you will be with me in paradise. So again, what did the thief do to obtain his salvation? He did nothing but believe in Jesus!

The only reason you're saved is because of Jesus. It's not because of what you did or didn't do. It's not because you didn't doubt your salvation today even though you doubted it yesterday. It's because of what HE did for you. I would suggest that you memorize a few scriptures that you can repeat back to yourself when you start doubting. Like take this one for example: “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

If you're not into memorization then write that on a little sticky and put it where you can see it all of the time. Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that your doubting is wrong. If it indeed is because of your OCD (it sounds like it is too) then that's just the way it goes. It's just that you've got to know what to do when those doubts come. Push back on them and say I know the truth. I am saved because of my faith in God's grace extended to me.
