• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I keep meaning to put a thread in here but i get too scared, but now i'm not going back, i will post it.

I'm really struggling at the moment with depression. It's getting worse, the doctor said she couldn't do much and wanted me to phone psych, but i'm too scared, i don't like phones, also she isn't the kind of person i'd just 'get intouch with'. I don't know what to do but it feels like each day is getting worse. I have nothing to do apart from sleep, eat, shower. Looking for a job but can't find one, and finding it hard even looking.

I don't know why i posted this really.. is anyone feeling the same? anyone have any suggestions? or just anything :sigh: :help:

Yeah, what Becksy said. If you've got nothing to do then you will spend more time thinking about how depressed you are. It will be healthier to find something to do. What I do is run because it gives me something to do, it is a healthy way of wasting time, it gives me time to think, and the high I get after running feels good. Plus, endorphins (chemicals in your body) are released which actually will make you feel happier. And to add to all that, running is something to feel proud about. I know I feel great if I ran the distance or time I wanted to.

You don't have to run but it is cheap and it accomplishes many things at the same time.

Hi sis,

This week has been especially trying for me too.

When I was home I use to go for long walks around my neighbourhood in the local park and nature reserve. I also taught myself some arts and crafts, like crotcheting just to take my mind off the boredom. I was planning on making stuff and flogging them on ebay :)

Big hugs to you and I'll keep you in my prayers.

Heya Sister,

I am going to be straight forward with you. Only person that can help you is yourself. Things you might do to protect you are accually suffocating you. You have freewill, you have more power over your own mind than you realize. Just the fear, that constant need for comfort is emotionally suffocating you. More you run in fear, the more you denie yourself to be yourself.

Remember the movie the Matrix, Morpheus said. "I can show you the door, but only you can walk thru it." Same applies with the Lord, he will open doors thru his teachings and oppertunities to overcome your problems. Put you have to choose to walk thru it, to believe in him when you don't believe in yourself.

Remember you are not alone, make the choice to reclaim your life. Lean on the Lord and pray to him. Cry out and tell him your pain. Put your faith and hope in him, and he will carry you out of the darkness.

Give you 2 peices of scripture to help you.

Luke 6:46-49

Building on a Solid Foundation

46 “So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say? 47 I will show you what it’s like when someone comes to me, listens to my teaching, and then follows it. 48 It is like a person building a house who digs deep and lays the foundation on solid rock. When the floodwaters rise and break against that house, it stands firm because it is well built. 49 But anyone who hears and doesn’t obey is like a person who builds a house without a foundation. When the floods sweep down against that house, it will collapse into a heap of ruins.”

Proverbs 19:8

To acquire wisdom is to love oneself;
people who cherish understanding will prosper.

And Click here for 2 Chronicles 7:14!

I pray this will help you get started.

One last thing, take time and either talk with God about anything that is on your mind. OR get a notebook and pen to write 2 pages every morning to unload all your thoughts from your mind. This will help you think clearly and see things beyond the emotional build up inside.

God's blessing on everyone on this thread. I am feeling great and I have been depressed most of my life. Thank God I was "miraculously" "healed" of my depression for over 10 months now.

It appears to me different therapies work for different people. My relief, and perhaps cure, for my depression was not running, ad's, positive thinking, Biblical thinking, or instantaneous healing by the Healer.

God often uses doctors to precipitate a solution to disease. Prayer and devotion to God's word can lead to humility and the willingness to admit a problem with depression and give one the courage to get help.

My "solution" - I somehow do not want to use the word cure in case I ever relapse - ECT. ECT is Electro Convulsive Therapy, the whipping boy of Hollywood, shock therapy.

Prayers to all suffurers of depression - a painful and invisible disease.

This does not preclude you from seeking help from others though. But notice the verb, "seeking" and who's doing the action: you.

Please, DO seek the help from others and in doing so, help yourself.
haha yup

Guess I can explain more about it. Soul has freewill, choice. Just as human nature we tend to take the easy road, or the one we feel we have control over. My point is that path that leads to healing requires the choice of giving up control. To ask for help instead of thinking one can do it themselves.

Aaron Lewis pointed this out to me long ago in his lyrics.

Staind Falling

You
In your shell
Are you waiting for someone to rescue you
From yourself
Don't be disappointed when no one comes

Don't blame me you didn't get it
Don't blame me you didn't get it
Don't blame me you didn't get it

I already told you that falling is easy
It's getting back up that becomes the problem
Becomes the problem
If you don't believe you can find a way out
You've become the problem
Become the problem

You
All alone
Are you waiting for someone to make you whole?
Can't you see?
Aren't you tired of this disfunctional routine?

Don't blame me you didn't get it
Don't blame me you didn't get it
Don't blame me you didn't get it

I already told you that falling is easy
It's getting back up that becomes the problem
Becomes the problem
If you don't believe you can find a way out
You've become the problem
Become the problem

I already told you that falling is easy
It's getting back up that becomes the problem
Becomes the problem
If you don't believe you can find a way out
You've become the problem
Become the problem

Falling is easy
It's getting back up that becomes the problem
Becomes the problem
And if you believe you can find a way out
Then you've solved the problem
You've solved your problem.

Another description is like I mentioned earlier. About the Matrix movie.

Before we are saved. We had a choice to allow the Lord in our hearts or not to. Repent and ask for forgiveness or be prideful and slave to our sins. Same applies, choice you make can lead to death or life. Give up one's fear and pride to the Lord will lead to life, specially eternal. Keep living in fear and pride, problems will keep getting worse and eventually one will 'drown' and/or take others with them.

We all have choice. I chose life, asked for help. My life is on the fast track to something I wouldn't have even imagined 11 months ago. Heck, I found the woman God chosen for me and I know my passions in life. Glory is all His, not my strength that I come this far or my wisdom that I overcome what I have.

When in pain and dispair, chose life. TRUST the Lord and ASK for help.

Matthew 7:7

“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you."
