  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

NOT another abortion thread...

...but an effort to bring clarity and purpose to those that are active.

There are a plethora of abortion threads out there right now. Some are hosting redundant debates and some are woefully off topic (not the threads themselves bu the discussion within). All are, IMO, relevant and somewhat unique topics in this general subject area. This is an attempt to get debate focused and on topic in each of these threads.

Regarding the morality of abortion
Well, actually, none right now although everyone wants to discuss it in all the other threads

Religious Perspectives
Church Fathers speak out on abortion.

Regarding Roe and general abortion law
Is Roe vs. Wade Valid? in Ethics and Morality

Debate should focus on the political ramifications of this and other state abortion bans. In particular, how they might effect the '06 and '08 campaigns.

Planned Parenthood South Dakota Plans to Defy Law, Continue Committing Abortions in News and Current Events
Follow the raction to SD's law.

Can there be any common ground in the abortion war? What would be needed for a "win, win" on abortion (reducing to almost never the occurance of abortion while still leaving it safe and legal)

If abortion gets banned, what then? in Ethics and Morality.
And the opposite side of the coin. What does America look like and what other problems do we have to face if abortion is outlawed.

Since Everyone Else has had a say on abortion... in Ethics and Morality
Not really for debating. Simply a place to post your position.

Ancillary Issues
Emergency Contraception
The "morning after" pill in Ethics and Morality.
Is it abortive or not. Is it an acceptable option for Christians.

Court rules Wal-mart must carry morning after pill in News and Current Events
Should pharmacists be required to fill prescriptions that go against their morals? in Ethics and Morality
Should pharmacies be able opt out of providing emergency contraception.

Other
‘Choose Life’ License Plate Lawsuit Victory in New York in News and Current Events

Please post any others.

Here's what I've been wondering, not that this debate will ever end, but pro-lifers are obviously "getting in gear" because of the recent Supreme Court appointments. What will you do if it is NOT overturned. You seem pretty confident it will, but that is hardly guaranteed.
Let's discuss that here: Abortion - can there ever be peace? or here: Is Roe vs. Wade Valid?
