• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

You know what makes me mad? People and books that portray those characters/people that when they get saved suddenly its all clear and God tells them just what to do, and things all work themselves out in very short order and its all peachy and good. It does NOT work like this. Not in my experience anyways. Sometimes those books/people leave me feeling disillusioned, like "why isn't that happening to me? What did I do wrong?" Well the thing I think is that in these types of books and for certian people their problems aren't that complex and they can be worked out in a burst of epiphany. But I think for most of us it takes a lot of long hard work on a rough road, and it doesn't happen just like that. Lots of us still struggle after a long time, and things don't get clear and easy. Salvation is not a quick fix, its only the very beginning of a long hard road, and it makes me mad when it gets portrayed as some quick fix like that.

i agree with you. i think there only a few instances where it was a quick fix. but at other times, it only seems that way because people leave out details. and why they do that...i don't know. but it leaves me feeling like i did something wrong. like i'm missing something, because i'm still struggling.

so yeah...i understand what you mean. but i don't think it's something WE did wrong.

With bumps and bruises I go forth. I go forth with emotional scarring to overcome. I endure the road to Christ even in the time of trouble. One foot in front of the other crawl if I have to (which at times I have). Sometimes to follow in the footsteps of Christ is one's greatest challenge, but where I could no longer walk He picked me up and carried me. I fell a few times, but somehow He nudged me along. I can walk again.

some people do get quick fixes for a lot of things that were wrong in their lives. i was immediately healed of alcoholism, drug addiction, and lesbianism. i wasnt immediately healed of HPV, that took time fasting and prayer. i wasnt healed of my degenerate mind, that is constantly being renewed in the Word. i knew my call a loooooong time ago before i first gave my heart to God. the pathway to His will wasnt drawn on a piece of paper for me, but by His grace i have been finding my footing. read some joyce meyer. she never talks about quick fixes.

well, you took the words right out of my mouth.

Yes, salvation is the first step of a long hard road.
But He helps us along the way:clap:

From my experience, there is no such thing as a quick fix. Whatever it is, I have to struggle and suffer through it - wondering when God decides to help and why it takes Him so long.

You know when it feels the worst? When you're sick and tired of praying. As if you haven't already told it to God over and over again, or as if He doesn't know what you're going through. He knows. You've prayed. No change. So what's the use?....

Hey there Amy,
I know JUST how you feel, I have prayed for things, cried myself to sleep countless nights, wondering if God heard me. Beleive me HE DOES. It is not a quick fix you are right, but keep going. The worst thing you could do is stop. God wants to see that you are not going to give up or stop when things seem hopeless, its kinda like a test in a way, and believe me you will NEVER regret keeping at it. KEEP GOING. :)

I've felt that way before, too, but it took me a while to realize that God was answring, He just wasn't answering the way I wanted Him to.

Sometimes when we want God to move in our lives on our behalf, He wants us to take a step of faith first. Sometimes that's giving something important up so we can have something even more important. Sometimes that's just accepting, gratefully, that what we desire is not His will. Sometimes, we just need to pray and not stop praying until we hear from Him. Sometimes we just have to wait patiently while God prepares the way for our prayers to be answerd (I have prayed for 7 years for one thing before, only to have God surprise me with it when I'd given up hope; I've also prayed for a major life change and had Him grant it within hours.)

As for the instantanious move versus the long, hard road, it all depends on the person. I, too, know people who were delivered of addiction instantly. I also know people who weren't. Nobody goes from sinner to Billy Ghram or Mother Theresa instantaneously, but when we're redeemed by Christ's blood, things do change, even if we don't always feel that change.

AMEN wgjones3!!!!

I agree with what you said very much, :)

Hang in there Amy, I too prayed years and years, and things are just starting to be answered, so it takes time sometimes, but hang in there, you'll be VERY glad you did. Its a process, and I agree that we have to keep praying in faith sometimes, having faith that God WILL answer. He will. :)
